Stop Reading This Lousy Column, and Read a Book Instead
Americans are reading fewer books. Here’s how to reverse a worrisome trend.

A bit of distressing news: Americans are reading fewer books. At least that’s the report from the gang at Gallup, who surveyed U.S. adults in December 2021 and learned that we’re all individually reading “roughly two or three fewer books per year” than we did in 2001-16.

I have numerous authors that I read and wait for the latest books to hit our library.
Jeffery Deaver, Michael Connelly, John Sandford, Craig Johnson, C J Box, William Kent Kruger, Robert Crais, Jack Carr, Brad Taylor to name a few.
    I really enjoy reading.

My last three books have been: Money Land by Oliver Bullough, Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut, and Ishmail by Daniel Quinn.

Still not a book reader, but one of the most enjoyable times I had was when our kid got into a book series by James Patterson called Maximum Ride. I got a copy of one of them so I could read it and talk with her about it, and I couldn't put that book down!

Love books on Africa. One of my uncles was a Methodist missionary in Rhodesia now Zimbabwe during apartheid and served as an intermediary during negotiations between the white run government and the native Rhodesians in their battle for independence. He was trusted by both parties and relayed messages and negotiations since they initially would not meet in the same room to talk. Some of my favorites are Wilbur Smith, Peter Rimmer, Frank Coates, Jeffrey Whitman, among others.

I used to be a big reader back when I had an hour commute each way, but these days I'm mainly Audible book listener. these days as I don't seem to be able to sit and read, but I can listen while doing most anything like mowing the lawn, or even watching sports. I have over 130 books in my library but I have to admit many of them don't get finished because I get bored easily. I used to read a lot of novels but these days it's mostly non-fiction.

How to books, Poker strategy books, politics, motivational, self-help / meaning of life books are my preference.

I like long walks on the beach, and

I read tons of books. I have switched to a Kindle for most books though, and I don't often read paper books. I just finished an excellent book in paperback called "40,000 to one" by Ben Petrick. He was a major league baseball catcher who was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson's disease when he was only 22 and it ended his baseball career. It's basically the story of his life. Excellent read.

Reviving the question.. Any good book recommendations?

I'm finishing up my current book while trying to decide on the next. I'm finishing up long fiction novel so I'm ready to change course. I like non-fiction books about humanity, economics, fraud, investing experiences, or just good investigative journalism.

I haven't read any books in a long time. But what I did read was Science Fiction, The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings trilogy, books about WWII and Astronomy books. Actually, while in High School, my first job was working in a Library.

The TurtleTrader books are good. There is a main one, then others chimed in.

I'm reading the owners manual for a Zoom R8 audio recorder. Matter of fact, I think I've only read owners manuals since Christmas.
