Thread: Shutdown Binge-Watching Recs

    Default Shutdown Binge-Watching Recs

Now that most of us are hunkered down for a couple of weeks, and with no sports to watch, how about we talk about some shows that are worth watching?

I've watched several movies and series on Netflix, Prime, AMC, etc. but I have to admit that about half or more that I start turn out to be not for me. So, I spend an hour trying to find something watchable.

A little insight would be nice too. I'm not into westerns, sci-fi, or car chase movies very much, so a little genre heads up helps.

I think we've touched on this before here, but so much new content has come out since.

    No spoilers, please!

    Thanks!

Better Call Saul on AMC has been fun. If you watched Breaking Bad you'll like it.

It's about the crazy attorney / fixer from Breaking Bad and how he got started.

Funny at times and clever. It moves a little slower than I'd like so waiting a week for new episodes is tough, but binging the older episodes does the trick.

Great spinoff series. I have the first few new episodes taped, buy currently me and my wife are rewatching part of series 4 again to get reaquainted, since its been almost 2 years since their last series aired.

Searching For Sugar Man was very good story about an old singer / songwriter who vanished. Netflix - about 90 minutes long.

I liked Searching for Sugar Man.

On the documentary side "Dont F with Cats" on Netflix. Batsh*t crazy true crime doc.

Also big fan of the Narcos and Narcos Mexico series on Netflix.

    Westworld on HBO.

It might be on HBO but you'd like the tv show Fargo. There's a movie too but I haven't seen it

Power on Starz was pretty good. Final season was released this winter.

If you can get ahold of the HBO Series "John Adams," it's one of the best I've ever seen and would be a bit inspiring during this time. Another I've enjoyed is Yellowstone with Kevin Costner, though it has more of a "Dallas" feel to it at times.

Netflix asked to slow down streaming so the internet doesn't break

Last year, I enjoyed watching Breaking Bad (Netflix series). Then followed up by watching El Camino, which is a sequel movie (set after breaking bad), and then watched Better Call Saul, which has a timeline set prior to Breaking Bad.

Also, just finished watching 2 Seasons on Netflix of Mind Hunter - Story of FBI agents who first set up criminal Behavioral Studies dept by interviewing serial killers....ex, BTK. This NOT a documentary... still very good!

Also watched Net Flix's.. Peaky Blinders.... really loved that! Story of Gypsy gangster family in England, set early 1900s to 1936. Main character is Cillian Murphy, great acting!

Of course, Game of Thrones and WestWorld (both HBO)are great!

I also heard Don't F with Cats is good plus Narcos.

All great picks! Another suggestion for those with HULU...do a search online for channels. There are some crazy ones out there...kind of reminds me of my younger days pointing the satellite dish to try to pick up different "stations".

As far as streaming...Keep in mind that bandwidth for each area has a set range. It is normally many times higher than what normal use requires but with the high demand I expect some intermittent issues. I don't expect anything to "break" but do expect some data loss here and there...especially if relying on the cell towers for data. Probably more along the lines of dropped calls and SMS/MMS issues. I don't have anything to prove this except a base knowledge of trunkline systems so I won't swear to this...but won't be surprised if it does happen.

I find that history is important where most schools are rewriting or not teaching at all. That being said, I would recommend watching "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" to understand how our representatives should actually be representing.
