Trump says US will impose 10% tariffs on another $300 billion of Chinese goods starting Sept.1

    KEY POINTS

“The U.S. will start, on September 1st, putting a small additional Tariff of 10% on the remaining 300 Billion Dollars of goods and products coming from China into our Country,” says Trump in a tweet.

The surprise tariff announcement came after the U.S. and China restarted trade talks in Shanghai this week.

The White House said the meetings were “constructive,” adding China confirmed their commitment to increase purchases of U.S. agricultural exports.

Trump says US and China resume trade talks Thursday ‘at a different level’

Trump made the remarks in an interview with Fox News Radio without elaborating on what “a different level” means.

“Let’s see what the end product is, that’s what you have to judge it by,” Trump said.

China softened its stance, saying it’s willing to resolve the trade war with a “calm attitude” and indicating it won’t retaliate immediately.

IOW, China told Trump, "Calm down, or else. Namaste."

Mark my words and just observe the new Trump (with regards to China) going forward.

Reliable China insiders hint that this round of trade talks could lead to a ‘breakthrough’

“There’s more possibility of a breakthrough between the two sides,” said Hu Xijin, editor-in-chief of the Global Times, a tabloid under the People’s Daily.

Hu has been spot on with the recent developments in the escalated trade war. Most recently, he had warned about the Chinese retaliation just hours before China’s official announcement.

A blog called Taoran Notes has been followed by analysts covering China and market participants for cues on the trade battle.

In a 1,200-word commentary, Taoran said it’s “very likely” there will be “new developments” in the upcoming trade talks.

Trump delays tariff hikes by two weeks in ‘good will’ gesture to China

This is not much to most folks, I get that ... but considering who we're talking about; and what's par for the course--it's HUGE!
We'll have to just stay tuned to the rest of the show ... to see if I'm really onto something.

    Just curious-

What would anybody consider to be an acceptable end state for some kind of China trade agreement?

We all know that the communists will never permit full, free trade with no barriers, nor will there ever be complete enforcement against stealing our technology.

But what COULD be the agreement that would end this junk that is killing our exports by agriculture, and throwing 25% or higher taxes to be paid by US consumers?

    What would be " victory"?
