Duke Energy to convert all of its light-duty vehicles to EVs by 2030

Duke Energy Corp. said Wednesday that it pledges to convert most of its 10,000-vehicle fleet to electric vehicles (EVs), or another zero-carbon alternative, by 2030. That includes converting all of its light-duty vehicles to electric and half of its combined fleet of medium-duty, heavy-duty and off-road vehicles to EVs, plug-in hybrids and other zero-carbon alternatives. By 2030, the electric utility said it will cut petroleum usage by 10 million gallons a year, and reduce CO2 emissions by 60,000 metric tons. In addition to reduced emissions, Duke said the benefits of EVs include less noise and fewer expenses. Duke's stock, which rallied 3.5% in afternoon trading, has lost 8.4% year to date, while the SPDR Utilities Select Sector ETF has declined 6.6% and the S&P 500 has gained 5.7%.

They are not zero carbon in the transportation chain. lets talk about the child abuse miners digging for cobalt, lithium and other minerals and metals needed to make those batteries. how about the hazmat disposal of the expended lith batteries? how do people feel about having a car payment for life since the battery cars will only last 5-10yrs and new batteries if available will cost more than just buying a new ev car let alone having to pay the hazmat cost to depose of the old batteries.

Just a subsidized money grab. If they switch to "clean energy", they'll probably get some kind of tax rebate.

Question: Where will that electricity come from to power those green machines?

    Answer: Coal.
