TSP Talk: A quiet day that included new highs for the S&P

Rate this Entry
An afternoon rally moved the Dow and S&P 500 into positive territory yesterday, but once again the Nasdaq and small caps lagged, although the S-fund closed near the highs of the day, erasing a large early loss. The Dow gained 90-points, the dollar and bonds were down as yields rallied.

Daily TSP Funds Return
As I told you this week, I was on the road most of Wednesday so I didn't have great feel for the action, so I will post just two charts today, and be back on Friday with a full report:

The S&P 500 (C-fund) saw new highs again yesterday on very light trading volume. That "F" flag continues to develop, but as I've mentioned, they do to end to eventually break down. With the New Year just two trading days away, that is a possibility as we tend to see big moves to start a new year. Of course a break to the upside is not out of the question. This chart is up against some possible resistance, but the small caps have a bigger problem.

We got a nice bounce in the DWCPF small caps index over the last week or so, but over the last couple of days it hasn't been able to tack onto those gains. The one year chart is nothing to write home about with all of that resistance in the 2225 area and, although you can't see it well on this chart, there is an open gap down near 2100.

Again, you never know how a new year will start, but often any excessive move in one direction in the first couple of days will lead to a snap back in the other direction afterward.

The stock market is open this coming Friday, and so far it looks as though the TSP is open and will be processing transactions despite the Federal holiday. I am still not sure about this since they've given no indication either way.

Admin Note: The AutoTracker will rollover to the New Year this weekend. If you haven't logged in in a while, this would be a good time to do so to avoid having your account go into inactive mode. Also, if you are not on the AutoTracker, this is a good time to start so that we track your full year in 2022. I did find a bug that may have been preventing new users from creating an account, but that has been fixed. Really sorry if that effected you.
