The rally in stocks continued on Friday with a 576-point gain for the Dow, and 2% to 3% plus gains in many of the major indices. By my calculations the S&P 500 (C-fund) would have been up somewhere close to 6.58% for the week, and the S-fund's DWCPF Index was up 6.24%. Stocks dismissed some negative earnings news on Thursday and moved significantly higher. Even Nvidia, the stock that was dragging the futures down overnight after releasing earnings on Wednesday evening, closed with a big gain, and that's a pretty good sign, and a big difference from the relentless selling of all news events in recent weeks. The market fought through some obstacles to close with solid gains on Wednesday as the Fed meeting minutes revealed a more hawkish, but more definitive Fed. The Dow gained 192-points on the day, and that's actually 4 days of gains in a row. The more volatile Nasdaq had an even bigger gain but after the bell some disappointing tech earnings stepped on those gains. Small caps led with a gain over 2% on the day. Stocks tumbled early on Tuesday after SNAP's earnings warning the nigh before. We did see an afternoon rally that pushed the Dow into positive territory by the close, after being down 515-points at the lows of the day. The S&P 500 closed 66 -points above its low, so after giving up all of Monday's gains and then some, it bounced back enough to hold onto a gain for the week. Stocks reversed a big intraday loss on Friday to close flat. That reversal action rolled over into Monday and we saw big gains across the board. This time it was the large caps that outperformed, and the bigger the better as the Dow gained 2%, the S&P was close behind at +1.89%, then the Nasdaq picking up 1.6%, and then the small caps which added about 1%. The I-fund also had a good day with the dollar falling sharply. Bonds were down as yields ticked higher.
