TSP Talk Blog

This and that about the market, the TSP, maybe some politics, and life.

  1. TSP Talk: Small caps show life, or is this just pre-holiday stuff?

Stocks were mostly higher after another drop in the jobless claims before the bell. The Dow gained 142-points while the S&P 00 added 5. The Nasdaq slipped into negative territory late but small caps shined again with a strong gain. Bonds and the dollar were down, as yields rallied.

  2. TSP Talk: Flip flopping before the holiday

Stocks were higher yesterday with green across the board during a quiet, light volume trading day. The Dow gained just 10 points but the small caps just keep zigging and zagging in fairly large chunks as the Russell 2000 gains almost 2% yesterday. That doesn't take away anything from the gains, which were real, but perhaps money managers weren't the most active traders. The Dow gained 186-points and it was actually the percentage laggard on the day with its 0.54% ...
  5. TSP Talk: Follow-through rally stalls, reverses

Stocks were mixed on Friday but a bit of a disappointment after the strong start to the day. The Dow gained 124-points, but it peaked right at the opening bell when it was up more than 200 points higher. The Russell 2000 small cap index was up, as was the S-fund, and the I-fund was given a nice gain, but most of the other indices were down on the day after some decent early gains. Bonds and the dollar were up.
