    Seasonal bias went in the bulls' favor as expected. It was a typical low volume week that started slow and a bit directionless Monday. But the gains for the week were really put in motion on Tuesday when prices rose mostly uncontested all day for stock indices. Volatility picked up Wednesday, but the bulls reclaimed lost gains by the end of the day. The shortened trading Friday was quiet, and the price range was the smallest we've seen this year.

    Stocks were down this week but with the previous Friday's action lumped into this week due to the TSP being closed, the C and I-fund recorded gains for the week. That was not the case for S-fund who had averaged out about even for the week going into Tuesday. The indices were looking to be building on the previous week's late momentum, but instead pulled back mid-week.     Inflation in the U.S. is cooling. Or at least that is what the latest Consumer Price Index suggests. The year-over-year price increase for the CPI report from October 2021 to this October was 7.7%. Not great, not ideal, but in the right direction from the 8.2% expected. Inflation is still high but the lower-than-expected report ignited hopes that the Federal Reserve will moderate its rate hike plan.     The Federal Reserve brought volatility this week as promised. The first half of the week was anticipation for the FOMC meeting. There were expectations the Fed would show a softer side, but indices slipped heading into Wednesday as with expectations usually comes disappointment. The FOMC policy statement went public late Wednesday, and the initial reaction was an instant rally after it seemed the Fed was planning on slowing its rate hikes as soon as the next meeting in December.
