    The Dow gained a respectable 63-points on Wednesday while the broader indices saw minimal to slight gains from 0.03% in the Nasdaq, to 0.17% in the small caps, and 0.18% in the S&P 500. You can see in the intraday charts below that the action was choppy, but it was actually a quiet day overall, with narrow ranges in the indexes from a small loss to those modest gains.

  2. Weak open, weak close, stocks somehow up on the day

    Stocks survived a negative open on Tuesday, and a weak close, to post slight - to - modest gains across the board. The relentless rally off the December lows continues and while it seems quite extended, investors continue to dump money into the market, possibly they fear missing out on a trade deal announcement.

  3. Trade deal getting closer - bulls don't want to miss out

    It was another positive trade story that boosted stocks on Friday sending the Dow up 444-points, leading the charge with those large global companies most impacted by tariffs. The S&P and small caps gained over 1% while the Nasdaq, more tech driven, was up moderately at +0.61%, and the Transportation Index lagged with a modest gain of 0.23%.

  4. TSP Talk Weekly Wrap Up

    Stocks soared this week giving all the TSP stock funds more than 2.5% in gains with the S-fund outperforming with a gain of 3.39%. Hopes are growing high for a resolution in the trade issues encouraging investors to move their money into stocks. Stocks are a bet on the future, so as long as the U.S. and China seem to be approaching a deal the more investors will chase the pay off. This may mean an actual trade deal is not ideal for stocks.   5. Another weak close, but bulls not giving up

    Stocks opened lower after weak retail numbers were released, but the dip buyers didn't take long to do what they do, and we saw a sharp late morning rally after some accommodating words from one of the Fed governors regarding the Fed balance sheet. For a second straight day however, there was some late selling to take the indices off their highs, and in the case of the Dow and S&P 500, into negative territory. The Dow lost 104-points. Small caps and the Nasdaq were up.
