  1. TSP Talk: A mixed and choppy expiration Friday for TSP Funds

Stocks were mixed on Friday, the end of an expiration week that saw a spike in volume, which is typical and not necessarily an indication of a capitulation type of reversal, but it certainly is a cleansing as we enter the the final couple of weeks of the second quarter of this bear market year. The Dow dropped 38-points on Friday while the S&P was up modestly, and the Nasdaq and small caps led with impressive gains as investors favored the more aggressive and beaten down indices. The Dow, ...
  2. TSP Talk Weekly Wrap Up

The S&P 500 had its worst week since the pandemic induced sell-off of 2020. This time around it is not a pandemic, but a hawkish Fed who is sees a recession as a potential consequence for what is necessary to halt inflation. Stocks gapped down to start the week as we approached the FOMC meeting. Inflation data was giving the Fed the justification for the first 0.75% rate hike since 1994. And that is what happened Wednesday. Market participants weren't too shocked, but the move also wasn't obvious ...
  3. TSP Talk: The downside resumed after the brief Fed rally

More crooked number losses on Thursday after Wednesday's modest Fed day rebound. The bears are putting the pedal to the metal in this environment, as they tend to do, but the rubber band has probably gotten over stretched on the down side with this recent decline. 4. TSP Talk: Stocks rally into the Fed, hold onto gains after

They sold the rumor and bought the news. The Fed raised the Fed Funds rate 0.75% and stocks, which were up sharply before the Fed policy statement was released, tacked onto those gains, but it was a wild day and the indices closed well off both their highs and their lows of the day. The Dow gained 304-pioints, but that's just 1%. Of the 4 major indices, only the Nasdaq gained more than 2%, so after almost a week of daily 2% to 5% losses, the gains yesterday were good, but nothing to write home ...
  5. TSP Talk: Choppy day for stocks in front of today's rate hike

It was a choppy day on Wall Street on Tuesday as stocks opened higher but failed to hold those morning highs, and in the case of the Dow, S&P, and small caps, they failed to hold any gain at all. Bond yields moved up again (bonds and the F-fund down). The dollar was up and oil was down after some wild swings. There was some strength in the market leading Dow Transports and High Yield Corporate Bonds, but they closed well off their highs.
