Stocks were mixed this week with large caps (C-fund) falling more than a quarter percent while small caps were up more than a half percent (S-fund). Both pulled back early in the week following the previous week's rally, but small caps got a boost the last couple days of June during the Russell index rebalancing. Stocks were mixed on Thursday, but mostly higher with the Transports and small caps outperforming, the S&P 500 adding 0.4%, and the Dow slipping 10-points. Boeing had more issues with their 737 jets and their losses yesterday cost the Dow about 70 points. Trading volume was very light as we head into the important G-20 and trade meetings.

For a third straight day we saw stocks open near their highs of the day, then close near the lows. The Dow just 11-points but also gave away an early triple digit gain. The S&P 500 and small caps saw minor losses but the Nasdaq performed well after Treasury Secretary Mnuchin told CNBC that the U.S. and China were close to a trade deal.

After a couple of days of stalling near the recent highs, stocks pulled back on Tuesday. The Dow lost 179-points, or 0.67%, while the Nasdaq led on the downside with a 1.5% loss, and the S&P shed about 1%. Small caps and the Transports were down as well, but for the first time in few days they outperformed the S&P 500.

Stocks opened modestly higher on what turned out to be a slow Monday, as we head into this week's G-20 and scheduled trade meetings. The early gains faded and the indices closed mostly lower although the Dow ended with a small gain of 8-points. Small caps and the Transports continue to get hit hard, and so far only the Dow and S&P have made new highs, so the broader market is lagging.
