This and that about the market, the TSP, maybe some politics, and life.

  1. TSP Talk: The bulls wake up from their post Labor Day nap

Stocks bounced back for a day after the recent pullback. Some key support held on the S&P 500 so it looks like just another quick dip - bounce - and go situation, but as we've been talking about, we are hitting the wall next week as far as seasonality goes. The Dow gained 237-points, and many of the other indices gained close to 1% on the day, but maybe more important was that the bears didn't sell the rally this time. Bonds and the dollar were down, as was gold, while oil rallied big. ...
  2. TSP Talk: The bears came back after the one day rally

The better than expected CPI numbers sent the stock futures higher and the indices opened to the upside, but they peaked quickly and the selling started right after the opening bell. There was no buying near the close this time and the Dow ended the day down 292-points or 0.84%. We saw losses closer to -0.5% in many of the broader indices. Bonds rallied and the dollar closed flat.

We saw some gaps get filled and as we've talked about, they did act as support yesterday. Bonds were up, as was the dollar.

  4. TSP Talk: The rallies are being sold

Not a good week for stocks and so far September has lived up to it's bearish reputation. The Dow lost 272-points with similar percentage losses in the S&P 500 and Nasdaq. The trend of the indices hitting their high during early trading, and fading the rest of the day is worrisome. Every time you thought the dip buyers were showing up last week, a new wave of selling hit the tape. Bonds were down as yield rallied. The dollar opened lower but rallied into the close. ...
  5. TSP Talk: An early rally fails and pullback continued

Stocks started Thursday on the positive side, but the highs were hit rather quickly and the selling kicked in. The Dow lost 152-points or 0.43%, and the S&P 500 had a similar percentage loss. The Nasdaq and small caps held up a little better. The dollar was down helping the I-fund out some as well, and bonds were up after a sharp move down in yields.
