View Full Version : Arkansas- Dead birds, dead fish

Heads up-

Massive fish kill a couple days ago in Arkansas -
http://www.wreg.com/lifestyle/sns-ap-ar--deadfish,0,7329721.story

and then today I read about thousands dead birds in the same general area (less than 50 miles apart, anyway)-

http://www.cnn.com/2011/US/01/02/arkansas.falling.birds/

So, what think you all?

My first thought is chemical weapons leak. Fort Chaffee is not far up river from where the first fish were found.

Pine Bluff, where they burned a lot of chemical weapons to destroy them, is about 75 miles DOWN RIVER from here. I'm thinking it's not something out of Pine Bluff, but hey, it could be.

Your thoughts?

My 2 cents may actually make you dumber just for reading it.
First, im relieved to read its not actually dead brides, but birds. :cheesy: 2nd....is it possible that smoke from the fireworks caused hail, killing mid-flight birds, who then landed on the fish?

Honestly, I couldnt even guess what caused this. Only experience I have is from Florida fish-kills, which is a result from suppposed Algae blooms. This all occurs from (Army Corps of Engineers) discharging large amounts of freshwater into saltwater rivers during the rainy season/hurricane/tropical storms. Its hard for the Army Corps to predict heavy rains in Florida I guess.
My thought on the birds could be maybe something in the food source. Blackbirds are scavangers, and will eat dead fish. If the fish died from toxins then flowed 50 miles downstream.....
Thats all I got.
Chemicals could always play a factor, but IMO (I hate to be a conspiracy theorist) I cant see it being announced as the fault of the Military. I believe it would be pinned on run-off from old guys with green fertilized lawns. Or maybe fireworks....The pleasure police are always looking to take our fun away, or tax it.

The fish kill targeted only the Drum fish; the bird kill targeted the red-winged blackbird, other birds included were only two or three others. Even if the thought is expressed that the storms & killer tornados in this area 12/31 did the birds in, it is too specie selected. And there does not seem to be any storm related to the fish. This time the river is not farmer fertilizer related, or Oklahoma would be hanging down our necks over here -again & still !!

My personal opinion is that certain frames of mind have gotten their laboratory chemical codes to where they are doing public testing: so we all need to keep some static electricity surrounding our brains, and on high levels, to disrupt the thought-police and protect ourselves...
- with apologies to Steady - You'll have to carry the story on from here - I've been away too long to get a good tale rolling on this...

First and very important, we need to review this: http://www.ebaumsworld.com/video/watch/822849/ (http://www.ebaumsworld.com/video/watch/822849/)

The title is misleading, there is some frivoity involved. The lesson we must all remember is how to make the hat and how frustrated that agent was.

This could involve bigotry, red wings, black birds, drum fish. Let's see who hates red, black and drums. I know some parents who hated drums. Wow. We need a congressional committee to investigate this. Hiring, of course many experts at taxpayer expense. After a few years, they willl conclude "we just don't know".

May I suggest a post "environmental study"? We have those in Florida and make us feel the pork is well managed. I would like to know how the immediate decline in drum fish & red-winged black birds may have long-term affects with the surrounding grasshopper sparrow population & Horned Nerite Snail breeding patterns.

Global warming?

Could be a Tornado 10403 that sucked up a huge amount of fertilizers and pesticides from the CORN for Ethanol fields and that killed the birds then deposited it in the river and that killed the fish, easy.:)

James48843
01-02-2011, 09:51 PM
Naw- the dead fish started showing up on the 30th, the tornados were on the 31st.

Interesting what is showing up in the canned fish, though-

Really makes you wonder, doesn't it?

Poisoning and disease ruled out..

Fish Commission ornithologist Karen Rowe said Saturday the birds showed physical trauma, and speculated that "the flock could have been hit by lightning or high-altitude hail."

Lightning or high-altitude hail, eh?

Not a chance.

This could get interesting.

James48843
01-02-2011, 11:11 PM
Let me give you some clues here.

The newspaper quotes a spokesperson as saying the birds were cleaned up by
U.S. Environmental Services on Saturday and Sunday, after being found on FRIDAY.

Who is U.S. Environmental Services?

http://www.usesgroup.com/uses/decontamination.php

Interesting. Amazing they can mobilize and deploy 15 biohazard equipped cleanup personnel in less than 24 hours to a remote site in ARKANSAS, don't ya think/

"...the birds showed physical trauma..."

James48843
01-02-2011, 11:26 PM
If you were poisoned at altitude, and crashed into the ground from 2,000 feet, you'd show physical trauma too.

Come on- what physical trauma could they have - spread out over a mile, except from the impact of falling?

Lightning --in mid air-- doesn't cause physical trauma. That's bull hockey.
It wasn't lightning.

So what was it?

James48843
01-02-2011, 11:28 PM
Hail is an interesting possibility. Any hail reported in that area at that time?

James48843
01-02-2011, 11:30 PM
The first story said it was just before midnight new years eve when the birds were killed.

Weather was CLEAR at that time. Here is data from Fort Smith- the closest station to the site where the bird were found:

Hmmm...... how do you get lightning and hail in CLEAR weather, visibility +10, and a temp/dewpoint spread greater than 20 degrees?

It's NOT POSSIBLE.

and

http://www.todaysthv.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=136195&provider=top

the second one mentions a bird found alive, walking but unable to fly.

I'd put that clearly in the poison or chemical category.

The cats outta the bag....I just caught coverage of it on fox news channel.

Could second hand smoke be a possibility?
"thousands of birds fell from the sky to their death....and a duck was also found". -Another clue maybe?

I found the "fireworks" theory hilarious yesterday, but it seems they wont let it go. Thank god we dont have any holidays that involve more fireworks that new years.

I've come to realize why lawyers are so successful in life. They can take any side of an argument and usually give plausible explanations to justify their positions.

I don't know much about this particular situation and haven't been following it too closely, but I haven't read anything plausible about what happened here either. Just taking this anticipated homicide at face value makes one wonder if there is a connection.

I never bought the "aircraft" argument in November after that plume was seen off the coast of LA either.

Golly - who wud-athot it when I posted the dumping of Wheeler's body yesterday eve!!
http://www.tsptalk.com/mb/showthread.php?t=9029.
There is no mention in what I've read (w/o digging) of any family members who would have ordinarily missed him. Apparently the Russian GRU knew more about the man's time schedule & where he was & what he was saying than any family member might have, anyway. But I think it is sad that a man who apparently did so much toward the Wall Memorial ended up dying in this manner.

As far as the birds, this morning's paper doesn't mention the bled, just the bruising trauma; apparently many of the birds got up and took off at some point in the night (stunned) - according to a fellow who watched them rain down on his house, yard, and area. The paper also mentioned these birds have night-blindness & would have had to have something scare them off their roosts; that they would take flight & then just follow the one in front of them, that it appeared they had hit something hard...

As I said earlier in response to James - it is so very species specific with the drum fish & the red-winged blackbirds, it is scary... Certainly draws my atention more than if it had been the grackles!!

Same mass killing of Redwing BB in Louisiana today..

Worse Than Fireworks Deaths? Government Blackbird Poisoning (http://www.opednews.com/articles/Worse-Than-Fireworks-Death-by-Martha-Rosenberg-110104-243.html)

The government used the chemical DRC-1339 to poison the over million blackbirds it killed in 2009, including in Louisiana. The avicide, called Starlicide causes "irreversible kidney and heart damage" says APHIS. "A quiet and apparent painless death normally occurs 1-3 days following ingestion," writes an APHIS spokesman on the site, probably secure in the fact that his death won't take three days.
Government wildlife officials may also feel hypocritical about the thousands of dead drum fish that appeared in the Arkansas River a few days before the red-winged blackbirds fell from the sky on New Year's Eve.
That's because wildlife agencies also kill entire waterways of fish when it serves their purpose.

State officials say they are investigating a "very large" fish kill in the Chesapeake (http://www.baltimoresun.com/topic/us/maryland/chesapeake-bay-PLREC000053.topic) Bay, but suspect cold temperatures killed them, rather than any water-quality problems.

The lemmings of the sky. Where I'm at those black birds fill the sky in the mornings and afternoons during certain times of the year, millions and millions wave after wave following each other. Heck if they have night blindness they could fly into the ground. :worried: Do the fish have night blindness?

re: the contrails. About 15 years or so ago, Worldnet Daily had posted photographs of a checker-board contrails event all across the sky where they are/were located in California. I don't know if that is the same area/time that the U-Tube film was discussing. I do recall that within a few weeks/months after that we had the same thing over NW Arkansas. The interesting thing about these: it was all checkerboard all around, & as far as I could see, until you looked south toward FortSmith, south of the Boston Mtns. There it was just one big circle. My first thought then was `Fort Chaffee??" I was hanging laundry in the backyard & felt that the stuff was drifting right down on me. With my binoculars I could see the planes, silvery dots; and besides making tracks behind them, they were making tracks in speed - my observation from the ground, anyway.
I've had no contact with WND for a good many years, so I am guessing as to when that was. I do remember that the military & other agencies denied any knowledge of who or what...
But it was so Very Obvious, that when I looked in the next morning's paper, I didn't understand why the news people apparently hadn't been aware of it. I have always regretted not calling the newspaper to be sure they were out there taking a look themselves....Especially since I saw a much reduced version of this several weeks ago.

Let me spell it out for you: The title of this thread is "Arkansas-Dead birds, dead fish". One would think the hyphen meant that the thread's main subject was "Arkansas" and that "Dead birds, dead fish" was a sub-category.

Your signature may explain your inability to understand the concept however...............;)

Or, perhaps I was comparing earthquakes to atmospheric gases? Hmmmmmmmm. I think you just want to hassle me over my posts for some reason. I hope one day you'll get over this need.........

The earth trembles in the middle of the night. The scared birds in two big groups trying franticly to leave there trimbling roostes collide with each other in the night. New movie idea.

You think the title since it had the word Arkansas meant it was anything and everything about Arkansas?..So why didn't you mention Clinton or Huckabee too?...."One would think the hyphen meant that the thread's main subject was "Arkansas" and that "Dead birds, dead fish" was a sub-category"..."Dead birds, dead fish" IS the title of the thread, not damn earthquakes...The only "One" would be you...Try to keep up will ya and pay attention:laugh:

Here we go again- another big fish kill found in Arkansas-

Thousands of white bass turn up dead in Arkansas River

LITTLE ROCK, Ark (Reuters) - Wildlife officials have discovered thousands of dead fish along the Arkansas River in Little Rock and were still counting carcasses on Tuesday, a day after an angler reported seeing dozens of dead white bass.

"We are on the river trying to determine the extent of the fish kill," said Keith Stephens, public information coordinator for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.

Wildlife investigators said the dead fish were mainly white bass, which are common in the river, and were between 5 and 8 inches long. Most were found near the foot of the Two Rivers Bridge, an 80-foot pedestrian bridge that opened in July.

What do you suppose is causing all these fish kills in Arkansas?

Fish kills are not uncommon, according to the game and fish officials, and are often caused by reduced oxygen in the water, algae bloom or overpopulation. Infectious disease, parasites and toxicity can also cause fish kills.

Here we go again.

Thousands of dead birds in Arkansas, AGAIN.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Thousands of dead blackbirds rained down on a town in central Arkansas last New Year's Eve after revelers set off fireworks that spooked them from their roost, and officials were reporting a similar occurrence Saturday as 2012 approached.

Police in Beebe said dozens of blackbirds had fallen dead, prompting officers to ban residents from shooting fireworks Saturday night. It wasn't immediately clear if fireworks were again to blame, but authorities weren't taking a chance.

Officer John Weeks said the first reports of "birds on the streets" came around 7 p.m. as residents celebrated the year's end with fireworks in their neighborhoods.

We had a 4.0 earthquake in Eastern Ohio over the weekend that they are blaming on fracking in that area.

Definition of 'Fracking'

A slang term for hydraulic fracturing. Fracking refers to the procedure of creating fractures in rocks and rock formations by injecting fluid into cracks to force them further open. The larger fissures allow more oil and gas to flow out of the formation and into the wellbore, from where it can be extracted.
