Facebook, MySpace caught releasing user data (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ynews/20100521/tc_ynews/ynews_tc2189)

"In a seemingly never-ending string of damaging disclosures about its users' privacy concerns, Facebook has reportedly been releasing user data to ad companies that hadn't even asked for the info.

"Facebook isn't alone this time: rival social-media site MySpace has also been called out in Friday's Wall Street Journal report (http://us.rd.yahoo.com/dailynews/ynews/tc_ynews/storytext/ynews_tc2189/36251908/SIG=12g15naot/*http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704513104575256701215465596.html) by Emily Steel and Jessica E. Vascellaro — together with the content-sharing sites Livejournal and Digg."

I have an account, but I don't understand the concept. I must be too old.

I just don't have the time to spend reading that an old schoolmate, "...just finished watering my tomato plants". ??

I joined when a high school classmate e-mailed me about a 40th reunion page. It can become addictive, especially at first, but gets old (for me) quickly. I even farmed for a while. I was wasting hours on a virtual farm!

It has been interesting catching up with people I haven't seen or mostly even thought about for 40 years.

I have no doubt they are selling the information. I gave as little as possible when I joined.

I'm with you Tom, I don't really "get" it.

My cell phone is for talking only also. If someone leaves a message, I haven't cared enough to know how to get my messages. I figure if the call is important they'll call back. I took out my land line, but always give that out when business's ask for my phone number. :D

I do facebook, with my daughter only. It's a nice way to keep in touch, but just have the minimal data necessar for an account.
