I like this idea better....
Stores open their 8-18 hours during the daylight -
- set their own time.
Until, of course, The Government takes over that part of our decision making, too !!!

Daylight Savings Time is like cutting one end off the blanket and sewing it on the other end to make it longer.

This is old but anyway......

Obama ready to eliminate Daylight Savings?

According to news reports (http://www.greendaily.com/2008/11/21/obama-looks-to-axe-daylight-time-nyt-explains-why/), Barack Obama may be getting ready to jettison Daylight Savings.

Turns out, according to two academics on the NYT Op-Ed page (http://www.barack-obama-now.com/blog/008/11/20/opinion/20kotchen.html?partner=rssnyt&emc=rss), there is little scientific proof that this reduces energy consumption. It also turns out that this practice could be wasteful, a bit annoying, and a lot of people, including Obama, want to get rid of it.

A study in Indiana, a state that recently started DST, showed an overall increase of 1 percent in residential electricity use with occasional increases of 2 to 4 percent in late spring and early fall. So much for conserving energy.

How about making Daylight Saving Time the new standard? Spring forward and never fall back.
I like having the sun stay up till 9:00 pm in the summer. :)

And while we're at it...how about no Saturday mail service? :D

Watch it KevinD sometimes wishes come true. I always thought DST was stupid, if a company needs to have it's employees to come in earlier or later just change the hours of operation, is that so hard? Summer hours 08:00 to 17:00, winter hours 07:00 to 16:00, DUH! MISS, (Make It Simple, Stupid)!

Yes, yes, yes, yes!!!!

How lame are we as a society that we can not leave the damn clock alone. More stupid legislation.

We can not even convert to the weights and measuring system that the rest of the world uses. lol

Spelling and grammar
The official spelling is Daylight Saving Time, not Daylight SavingS Time.
Saving is used here as a verbal adjective (a participle). It modifies time and tells us more about its nature; namely, that it is characterized by the activity of saving daylight. It is a saving daylight kind of time. Because of this, it would be more accurate to refer to DST as daylight-saving time. Similar examples would be a mind-expanding book or a man-eating tiger. Saving is used in the same way as saving a ball game, rather than as a savings account.
Nevertheless, many people feel the word savings (with an 's') flows more mellifluously off the tongue. Daylight Savings Time is also in common usage, and can be found in dictionaries.
Adding to the confusion is that the phrase Daylight Saving Time is inaccurate, since no daylight is actually saved. Daylight Shifting Time would be better, and Daylight Time Shifting more accurate, but neither is politically desirable.

Sorry nnuut but DST has nothing to do with company hours of operation.

Sorry grandma but that video says to leave "time" alone and don't "spring forward." My suggestion is (was)...

And much like Buster's inability to let James get away with an S in saving, I just had to clear things up a bit.

Hope every one is having a good weekend. ;) Dang! It's 11:00! I need to go to bed!

Oh - okay -whatever .... :) .... (passive)

Buster
...that it is characterized by the activity of saving daylight.

...so you are telling me that after we get it saved by saving it, we don't have in our savings for use at the far end of the day instead of the front end? :D ....(passive-aggresive)

...ride off into the sunset - 8674 -...whenever it gets here!
(but the saddle blanket apparently didn't get saved.)

What is this daylight saving you speak of. We do not participate in this ritual. We see plenty of the sun in the summer. I think it lives here in the summer.
