Largest-ever federal payroll to hit 2.15 million

"The era of big government has returned with a vengeance, in the form of the largest federal work force in modern history.

"The Obama administration says the government will grow to 2.15 million employees this year, topping 2 million for the first time since President Clinton declared that "the era of big government is over" and joined forces with a Republican-led Congress in the 1990s to pare back the federal work force. "...largest federal workforce in modern history."

Now there's a claim.

What do you consider "modern history"?

So the number of federal employees is going to tick up when we hire 80,000 part timers to do the 2010 census, and reach a number of 2.15 million? Hmmm... No, I don't really consider this "largest federal workforce in modern history".

They must not be counting all of Ronald Regan's years, or "Bush I" years as "modern history" because each and every one of those years had more federal employees than we do today.

There was one federal employee for every 50 citizens in the 1940's.

There was one federal employee for every 78 citizens in the 1960's.

There is one federal employee for every 153 citizens today.
