LAS VEGAS — Authorities say the gunman who shot two officers at a federal building in Las Vegas has been killed.

Police and federal agents swarmed the multi-story building that houses federal courts and offices for officials including U.S. Sens. Harry Reid and John Ensign.

The conditions of the officers and the identity of the shooter were not immediately known. Officials had initially said that both of the victims were marshals.

This is terrible news. I think an investigation is in order, even though the gunman didn't get into the building. It's great that we already have an enormous amount of information from Senator Ensign. He already knows that this wasn't a terrorist act. I wonder what it was, if not a terrorist act? This is confusing: no motive was established, but it wasn't a terrorist act.

U.S. Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., told reporters it appeared the gunman acted alone and the shooting was not a terrorist act.
"Right now they have no motive established," Ensign told a news conference outside the building. "Bottom line is, he didn't get past security."
