Maybe this deserves a separate thread - question is regarding OPM's Long Term Care Insurance (FLTCIP). If so, and there's interest, anyone want to start a separate thread on this??
I had signed up, and now I received yesterday an info package on a new FLTCIP 2.0 Plan - with response due by Dec 14. I got comparison summaries, compaison booklets, and more info than I can understand - absolutely confusing. We now have five different options to choose among - oh what fun!
To me it all seems a scam for the insurance provider to increase our premiums. Perhaps some new perks, but for me it seems rediculous, and so I'm thinking to stick to 1.0, and NOT agreeing to increasing premiums (inflation be darned!).
Any interest/dilemma with others? Here we go - I'm trying starting a thread for the first time, due to reponses below. I figure there must be others on the MB that had signed up for the FLTCIP - for myself at age 45, and now +8).
I'll just say that I almost feel duped by OPM for sigining up originally. Now, with 5 new options to pour over, it doesn't seem worth burning the neurons deciding where is the advantage/what is best - I don't see much difference (could be wrong), but agreeing with grandma, like you said, to me also it seems "it comes down to the checkbook!"
Love to hear if others received the FLTCIP 2.0 Comparison Package - and what they think!

McDuck: Yes, I am very interested.

Grandma:
Hessian, I joined the FLTCP this summer - as yet I have not had an additional info pkg. If it is confusing to you, I hate to think what it is going to do to my neurons! My selection was mostly based on what monies I could try to manage w/o. I did like being able to do a buffet style of choices. It is hard tho, to second guess what will be needed, or `wished had done.' Still, it all comes down to the checkbook. If there isn't already a thread for FLTC, then, yes, I'm for one!

I first got interested in this when taking a Dave Ramsey Financial Peace class - which I might add was More Than Worth the price - Anway he is a believer in The Market, and in LTC. It hadn't occurred to me I had enough `wealth' to even consider LTC, & checking with C.Reports, the Fed info, & other places I realized it might be workable if I am careful. My family history goes into the 100 years of age, along with HomeCare & Nsg Homes. My kids/grandkids have plenty on their plates, great grandkids too (2 by default & one on the way.) - don't be offended by the `default' - it was their grandmother that did that.) Anyhow - return to the subject - I picked a put-together packet that was JUST at the price I could afford. If that is changed any, I will have to reduce the options I put into the pkg. :worried:
And there is this, the kids have noted they don't worry as much as before. Just which options this in, I don't recall, but family members can get paid for the home care as long as they aren't licensed or certified for that work.

Hey Grandma,
What I left above is interesting, an I recall it is true in the 1.0 Plan. I haven't checked that 2.0 retains this, but this could be a plus that I hadn't considered originally. I only have a niece and nephew, and I'm the oldest of my siblings, so this is why I thought it could be beneficial for me.
I can imagine (guesssing) however that getting benefits and reimbursement for this care will entail filling out many insurance forms, keeping copious records and reciepts, and proving the need to the insurance company. Just wondering what the reality will be when/if we ever need it!
I wonder if anyone has actually tried or used the FLTCCCIP benefits.
