I was thinking the same thing. I was at Walmart on Black Friday, and I saw crowds of people, with shopping carts full. I expected sales numbers to be good, and I my self thought this would be a catalyst.

However, as usual, the press took a negative spin on the whole thing, and all the news reports are that the HUGE sales and discounts are hurting retailers.

With this doom and gloom media, there is no upside to anything. And after the negative reporting, the dow futures are down over 175 already this morning!

i would appreciate everyone's thoughts as to expectations for the week & month.

It is what it is, deep discounts to draw in shoppers hurts the bottom line. You can have a 3% increase in revenue but what was the profit after the huge discounts. Traders are thinking about that hard and I have heard many say they are holding out for the really big discounts.

Yeah, the media loves this stuff.

I'm just going to keep trying to use this volatility to my advantage. Wish I had more flexiblity though.
