After studying and preparing here for years, wouldn't you know TSP could not handle all the volume in dynamic times?

Tried to BUY this morning for an hour before the deadline. Server was apparently "busy." Even downloaded and tried another Browser as one TSP error message suggested.

Knowing the omnipotent attidude at the TSP, they may have shut down intentionally to "save us from ourselves" once again.

That would certainly be the first thing to come to my mind, but that kind
of manipulation of Fair Trade would result in Jail Time for many. Not likely!

The other is possible and more likey, the system just couldn't handle the
hits and our Million Dollar Upgrade is yet another failure (the list grows) !

I still vote for the "Jail Time for many" squalebear,

It is criminal when they cost me money. Let's don't even start with the Trade Limits again!

Many of us have felt Financial Loss and it continues to be painful! As
far as the Trade Limits go, I didn't start anything, but trust me, their
are TSP Participant's who will not rest until this theft of freedom is
restored.

hehehe Adam Smith's invisible hand.:D

Adam Smith (baptised (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baptism) 16 June 1723 – 17 July 1790 [OS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Style): 5 June 1723 – 17 July 1790]) was a Scottish (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scotland) moral philosopher (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethics) and a pioneer of political economy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_economy). One of the key figures of the Scottish Enlightenment (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scottish_Enlightenment), Smith is the author of The Theory of Moral Sentiments (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Theory_of_Moral_Sentiments) and An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wealth_of_Nations). The latter, usually abbreviated as The Wealth of Nations, is considered his magnum opus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnum_opus) and the first modern work of economics (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economics). Adam Smith is widely cited as the father of modern economics.

Smith studied moral philosophy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moral_philosophy) at the University of Glasgow (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Glasgow) and Oxford University (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxford_University). After graduating he delivered a successful series of public lectures at Edinburgh (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edinburgh), leading him to collaborate with David Hume (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Hume) during the Scottish Enlightenment. Smith obtained a professorship at Glasgow teaching moral philosophy, and during this time wrote and published The Theory of Moral Sentiments. In his later life he took a tutoring position which allowed him to travel throughout Europe where he met other intellectual leaders of his day. Smith returned home and spent the next ten years writing The Wealth of Nations (mainly from his lecture notes) which was published in 1776. He died in 1790.

Now that takes me back! In my first Economics class several decades ago, Adam Smith's The Wealth of Nations was practically my textbook. Of course that was when it was hot off the presses.

Yes, I also tried the phone lines. They either stopped answering or same system overload. Line went dead after appropriate menu selection

If you plan on stepping into this blood-bath on Wednesday, don't wait until Tuesday to do it. It'll be like trying to stuff 10 pounds of $h!t in a 2 pound bag for an electronic or phone IFT; it ain't gonna get in.

My people were in the buying mood and I told them to contact ETAC and the FRTIB directly to wage a complaint. Friday was a excellent buying opportunity and they could not get through.

Well just to put an exclamation on the initial thread here, It is midafternoon Monday and it looks like the inability to buy into the stocks on Friday morning has cost me about $6,500.00. Really pisses me off that they limit the trades and then can not even allow us to adhere to their new rules!

Is there any way to contact the TSP board other than the generic TSP Line?

Contact Losey at the e-mail address he gave. He is good about returning e-mails.

To contact the Thrift Board, Write a letter addressed to Chairman Saul- and include five copies of the letter, one for each member of the board, with instructions to share it with each member of the Board. Then mail it to the TSP HQ's in D.C. Greg Long will have to forward the letter to Saul.

Send your letter of complaint to this address:

Chairman Andrew Saul
Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board,
1250 H Street, N.W.,
Washington, D.C. 20005-5985

Ask at the end of the letter for an acknowledgement of receipt.

Send a duplicate of the letter to Saul's business office.

Andrew M. Saul,
9 West 57th Street, Suite 3405
New York, NY 10019.

Good luck.

Speaking of Saul- here is an interesting tidbit.

Guess who ran for Congress, collected some $1.4 million in campaign contributions, all while he was also officially a federal employee serving on the Thrift Board, and therefore prohibited from receiving any campaign contributions by the Hatch Act?

I'll give you one guess.

Thank you James,

To update my lone situation the S&P is NOW Up almost 9% at 3:20pm on this Monday.

So it is now $9,000.00 the TSP System cost me by not being able to buy in on Friday!

I still want to express tremendous gratitude to Tom for sharing his insight and philosophy over the years. I have no such gratitude for the FRTIB...

I had problems getting in on Friday, had to reboot a couple of times, but was finally able to get an IFT done, with a lot of patience as the system was extremely slow. Took several minutes tho. Started around 10:30A -10:45A or so.

It occurs to me that if this system is automated, then why does the tsp need to "close" when the markets are open? Certainly, they have programmed the formulas in to set the prices at the end of the day? With millions of our dollars having been spend and mis-used on these computers systems, they really have no excuse to have any human intervention in determining the executions of the transactions or the postings or anything . Instead of the money they are throwing away when doing unneeded mailings of things that can be posted on their website, they can afford to pay the overtime for the Thrift line operators to be there. And where are their back-up servers that are suppose to come on line in case of a failure?

You can miss dinner, you can miss the bus, but DON'T ever mess with people's money.. SUCH DOLTS!
