25% C, 50% S and 25% I fund

Good morning. I am going to make a risky move in front of the Fed meeting today. If you don't like to gamble you may want to look away. The intermediate-term is looking very good but who knows what will happen in the next few days? I like this early selling and I am willing to take the chance, but make sure you are before you act. I'm making an interfund transfer to 25% C, 50% S and 25% I fund this morning.

So much for buying a sell-off. The 100 point drop turns green but the Fed can still change that. If we rally big after the Fed I will not be real happy. It will be another case of the deadline beating us.

Caution: Paranoia alert. I wonder if the folks at TSP (or anyone for that matter) is watching and buys in front of our buy transfers, and sells in front of our sells? I doubt we have that much influence but it is getting to be routine where we make a move and the market heads there without us before our transaction becomes effective.

Whatever happens, the Fed will have the influence this afternoon.

I agree completely. I went into I today as since the +FVC will be a strong hedge against either direction the market swings this afternoon. Lets see what side the cookie crumbles.

110 mins until LD.

We can't catch a break. The post-Fed 100 point drop turns into a 100 point gain. But there's still an hour to go. Place yer bets!

The tendency on the day of the Fed is for a big move one way after the announcement, then a reversal the other way, then back the original way. We'll see. A flat close would be appropriate I think. :)

I was wondering , if I work owl shift (1030-630am), what woild be a good time to change my percentages in my TSP?

It wouldn't really matter. Any change from 10:30 PM to 6:30 AM would be the same as making it just before the 12 Noon ET deadline.

Is that what you meant?

I understand the deadline but if I make the change between those hours, will it be in effect for that day or the next day?

Your interfund transfer is effective the noon deadline after you make your trade. If you make a trade at 12:30 pm it is effective at noon the next day. If you make a trade at 11:30 am it is executed at noon and you get the closing price at that days end. There's gotta be a link to a discussion that explains this in great detail somewhere.

I just noticed that you transferred back in time. How about letting us in on the secret of how you do that. I need to change a transfer back in late July. :cheesy:

With the Dow down 150 - 200 this morning, the way things have been going lately, it wouldn't be a stretch to expect a big rally this afternoon. But the last few Friday's have been terrible because of fear of holding over the weekend, and Mondays have been the recovery day. It's risky because of the risk of being whipsawed but there could be a play in there.
