Howdy all,

I hope everyone had a good Fourth weekend. I gotta a question, that I hope someone can shed some light on.

I’m considering investing in Claymore Securities SWM Canadian Energy Income Index ETF (ENY) for my personal Roth IRA. Great energy holdings. But I’ve read about this double taxation that Canada has or is considering on Trusts . I guess the short of the whole thing is I’m going blind researching the net on what this may mean. Are my dividends reduced? It appears they are reduced 15%, but since this is a private IRA and not a Corporate IRA, I may be able to file paperwork to get the 15% back.

Has anyone had experience dealing with Canadian ETF’s or stocks and have encountered this taxation of the dividends by the Canadian Government. I’m going back and forth on this ETF.

Any thoughts or experience would be greatly appreciated.

And maybe the whole thing is a moot point and the ETF is worth investing in anyway, since I believe that oil will continue to go up and even the Chinese are investing in Canadian Oil sands.

TIA,
Rus

Thank for the heads up. I have no answer on the tax issue. Watch out for the currency aspect. The Loonie has been on a bull run.

Thanks Show-me,

I missed that about the loonie and if I go in, which I'm leaning to do, I'll definately just dip my toe in a little at a time to see how the water is. :D

The tax thing is the bug a boo and it may just be a minor inconvenience.

know cef creates some extra paperwork at tax time in a taxable day trade acct

IRA shields ya well from all this stuff (incld. big divs in the ultra shortz)...but in a taxable mad money acct. you create forms at tax time

eny is a claymore product...never had any issues or strange forms from their products...YET

the foreign stuff .....at times charge BIG azz fees over commission going and coming...always buy um at a free broker like bank of america.

CEF for the gld&slv folks .... who like the loonie world
