Hello,

I filed for a CARES act withdrawal and received a phone call from TSP saying there was a problem.

I called back later after verifying it was really TSP and not a scam.

The people I spoke with claimed my separation date from the military doesn’t match what they have on file and therefore they won’t release the funds.

Has anyone else run into this issue?

thanks in advance

I don't have a real answer for you, but the obvious question is why are the dates not matching up. I have to assume you are perusing this issue. As part of the request did you send a copy of your DD214? That is your official separation date and TSP should accept that document and adjust accordingly.
Good luck.

I hear ya! As soon as telephone person #1 said the dates don’t match I offered to send a copy of my DD-214.

When they said they would not accept a DD-214 as proof of separation date.......well, it took a lot of self control to NOT tell them what I thought at the moment.

Just call back to try talking to someone more knowledgeable. If you don't get the right answer or have misfortune of reaching the same ignorant person, ask to talk to the manager and cross your fingers! Did they say what documentation would be acceptable or any idea on how to resolve the date issue? Best wishes to you!

If they won't, call your congressman's office.

No they just kept trying to tell me to contact my “agency” and fix the date. I kinda laughed when they said “just go to your local office and have them fix it”. I wonder what the recruiter would say if I walked in and asked them to “fix” the TSP’s incorrect date? Hahaha

So I called back on a different day and spoke with someone who had common sense.

She realized right away that there was an error on the TSP’s side regarding my official separation date. She was able to show me where the erroneous information came from on old annual statements. Once I read her the “wrong but official” date from those papers, that proved to her that I was in possession of the statements and therefore the real account owner so she considered me “verified”.

After that, everything was easy. Funds are in my account today. Mortgage will be paid off before the holidays!

Go visit your local office. What a jerk. These people just skate all day while rest of the workforce carries their dead weight.

Anyway, depending on where you are in the USA, you probably couldn't talk with a human being in an office for months to come.

This thread is all the more reason to roll it all into an IRA when the time comes.
