Amazon announces StyleSnap, new warehouse robot and delivery drone design
Amazon.com Inc. has launched an AI-powered shopping feature, StyleSnap, that helps shoppers with fashion recommendations. Users upload a photo of an outfit that they like on the Amazon app and StyleSnap will suggest items from the site that match the look. The feature uses machine learning techniques to identify the items in the image. Members of the Amazon Influencer Program, which offers a special URL to users who recommend products, are eligible for commissions on purchases they drive. Amazon announced StyleSnap at the re:MARS 2019 conference, taking place in Las Vegas. The tech and retail giant also used the conference to announce a new warehouse robot, Pegasus, that aims to get orders to customers more quickly. Amazon recently halved its Prime delivery time from two-days to one. And a new Prime Air drone design was revealed. "[W]ith the help of our world-class fulfillment and delivery network, we expect to scale Prime Air both quickly and efficiently, delivering packages via drone to customers within months," the company said on its blog. Amazon stock has gained 15.3% for the year to date while the S&P 500 index is up 12.5% for the period.
