Global Stocks Rise After Trump-Kim Summit; Text Agreement Details Limit Gains

Global stocks traded higher Tuesday, with the U.S. dollar rising to a one-week high, as President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un signed a 'comprehensive' agreement to continue discussions that would lead to the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula, although gains were limited as investors found scant new commitments or advancements in the text of the document. The two leaders met for around 40 minutes, with only interpreters joining them, in the library of the Capella Hotel on Sentosa island in Singapore before sitting down with a broader collection of officials for a series of meetings, and a working lunch, that included Kim's sister and confidante, Kim Yo Jong. The pair also walked the grounds of the resort, which once served as a British army barracks, and chatted warmly as they posed for photographs in front of U.S. and North Korean flags.
