[$$] Weird Science: Wall Street Repeals Law of Gravity
The Standard & Poor’s 500 index has risen in eight of the past nine months, and even its lone blemish was a mere 0.04% snag in March. There have only been 52 days this year when the S&P 500 closed up or down more than 0.3%—the fewest through early August of any year. There’s much fanfare about how corporate earnings are growing anew, never mind that the cheerleaders are the same people who argued, back when profits declined in 2015, that earnings didn’t matter as much as, say, central banks’ undying love.
