The legislation would create a new stock index under the Thrift Savings Plan (https://www.tsp.gov/index.shtml) (TSP) dedicated to “companies that have made a commitment to gender diversity at the highest levels,” said Beyer (https://beyer.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=100)—meaning that federal employees could invest their retirement savings in companies that are walking the walk when it comes to women in leadership.

The idea makes financial sense for investors; as Beyer put it (http://www.fiercegovernment.com/story/new-bill-would-create-tsp-fund-focused-gender-diverse-companies/2015-05-20), “Research tells us that companies with more women in senior management and leadership roles outperform companies that fail to utilize women leaders.” It would also cost taxpayers nothing. A free way to highlight and reward organizations that are getting gender diversity right? That’s something we can get behind.

This is interesting on so many levels. Is it a statement on the motivations of a rich new congressman and how he can make his mark on the country? Is it a hidden comment on Carly? And, "get behind"......

This is what I brought up earlier in the FRTIB "why are people leaving tsp post-retirement? thread".

they can't do this, it is all just talk.

you can't have a female only investment option or else that would be discriminatory against males. and you can't have male only investment option because that would be discriminatory against females. and where is bruce jenner supposed to put his money? not gonna happen.

I don't know, anytime I hear any of this diversity talk I start thinking if I needed surgery, would I want the best qualified surgeon or the most diverse surgeon cutting on me? Wake up America!

So far TSP funds have only mirrored major indices. The indices existed first, then came index funds to mirror them, followed by the TSP and many other retirement plans joining suit. Even the L funds are based on percentages of index funds held.

So, is the TSP really thinking of leaping over all of these steps and making their own index? Just doesn't seem realistic to me.

It's managed by the Government. Should it be realistic? :ban: More social engineering from Big Brother (Or is it Big Sister now?)
