In a broad retreat after three straight strong months, orders for new durable goods decreased 4.9% in July, the Commerce Department estimated Wednesday.

This can't be good for today's stocks :(

Unless people look deeper into it and see it as a sign that inflation under control so perhaps a slacking of Fed raising rates. :*

Ah, better than fingers crossed is this, which probably accounts for the upswing:

The supply of new homes on the market increased 1.8% in July to a record 460,000, which represents a lean 4-month supply at July sales pace. It's the tightest inventory in relation to sales since October.

Probably not good in the long run. Greeny will see it as a reason to keep raising rates. He wants the housing market to chill.

Is he speaking today? Everything always dumps when he opens his mouth. If S keeps going up before deadline will you sell, MM and take the gain or let it ride until tomorrow?
