Netflix looks like a good risk reward play here as it hits the 200-day EMA and fills a large open gap. Any fall below those levels and it's over.

I'm in @ 338.20. My mental stop won't be too much lower than 320 - 315.

I was just thinking about this on Friday, because I had read that Netflix had lost 20% over the last few weeks over growing concerns from competition. Now you can't tell me you'll get a bump of some what when Netflix premieres it's Orange is the New Black season 2? If I remember correctly, stocks got a small bump from House of Cards.

Netflix flirted with my "mental stop", and I likely would have sold had it closed below the January low of 320 last Tuesday, but it never did. I gave it a few days and it made its way back above the 200-day EMA and into the open gap area again. Tonight it reports earnings and this is probably the make or break for this trade. NFLX is usually a big mover on earnings day and I feel like I'm flipping a coin. But as far as the chart goes, it will either resume its downtrend, or it found its bottom near the 200-day EMA after filling a large open gap.

Yeah, in a big way. Short term overbought. Ready for a pullback before it resumes higher, IMHO.

Agree. Looks like a breakout from a bull flag that may have a day or two left, but then perhaps another flag-like consolidation like last week.

Every dip in netflix has been good to buy up to this point. Today's sell-off looks a little more serious - and life threatening. :)

It will be hard to pass up, but I may wait until tomorrow to see how it's digested.

I just clicked over to cnbc, saw the ticker and thought it was a mistake. Watched it tick by a few more times. Down $11X to $33X right now. Insane. What happened? Bad earnings call on top of a bad market day?

Earnings weren't bad - beat estimates, but the decrease in customer growth hurt them since their price increase (of $1 a month)....

Netflix NFLX, -25.94% said in its investor letter that during the third quarter, it added one million new subscribers in the U.S., to end the quarter with 37.22 million members, lower than its forecast and below the previous year.

“Year on year net additions in the US were down,” said Netflix Chief Executive Reed Hastings, in his quarterly letter to shareholders. “As best we can tell, the primary cause is the slightly higher prices we now have compared to a year ago.” Last quarter, its price hike to $8.99 did not affect subscriber growth

Even though Netflix carefully managed its latest price hike to avoid alienating its customers, the news on Wednesday recalled the summer of 2011 when it lost about 1 million subscribers in the wake of a far bigger price hike.

Now that's a gap. It looks like NFLX has a history of some runaway gaps that don't always get filled. Too dangerous for me. But the risk takers could get rewarded if correct.

When I looked at the NFLX chart this morning I thought about making a comment on that gap in this thread :D

Even from the bottom of the Jan gap to the bottom of the current gap the slope seems ridiculous. Couldn't one argue that those 2 gaps still need to be filled...and may be reasonable targets?

The Jan 2013 gap, I assume, since the Jan 2014 is filled already?

That would be bloody.

Those brave souls who bought NFLX at the open ($333) are already being handsomely rewarded. And there's much more to come, IMHO. Will it be volitile? Yes. But I think this could be a golden opportunity, as long as you don't over-expose yourself, and watch it carefully.

i posted a question about NFLX but did not hear anything so thought I would try here where you had posted back in 2014. Wowwww what a play this has turned out to be. Just wondering if it's too late to chase this one. Everyday I look and say shoulda woulda coulda and the stock jumps $2-$3 dollars a day. Anybody feel like this is still a good play. Thanks for any input.

I'm selling NFLX here. I was looking for a 10% move so close enough. Now I'd be a buyer on a pullback near the breakout point.

Mid summer last year I sold my Best Buy stock at around $53 a share. When I was working for BBY part time I was getting shares for about $30-35 through payroll deduction. So not a bad profit. By mid fall it was hovering around $72 a share and today it is $76 a share. I guess it depends on how you look at "Lady Luck". :D

Another quarterly miss for NFLX. Down 20% in the AH. Set to open tomorrow down 40% from it's November high and below the 200 DMA.

Going to be another minor gap down in NFLX tomorrow after reporting the loss of over 200,000 subscribers. Down over 20% in the AH (again). NFLX needs to focus on quality shows instead of the quantity of their "documentaries".

Remember when everyone thought we'd be riding overpriced Peloton bikes and sitting indoors watching (terrible) Netflix shows the rest of our lives? How things change.

Price hikes on the way too. Of all the streaming services we have, I think we use Netflix the least. Certainly not getting our money's worth now.

The streaming giant hiked the monthly price of its basic plan to $12 from $10 and its premium plan to $23 from $20.

Netflix’s $7 ad-supported plan will still cost $7 a month.

The price hikes take effect immediately.

The last time Netflix raised prices in the U.S. was in January 2022.
