Ok, so I’m a firm believer in that the only dumb question -- is the one that isn’t asked.

With that in mind, can any of you explain something to me:

Why is it that when you make interfund transfers, TSP does it via percentages?

I’m mean, what if you really only wanted to transfer say $5000 from the G-fund to the C-fund – that’s pretty easy to understand and do….but trying to figure out what the % per fund should be to give you almost the same overall amount seems excessive. (even for the computer)

I never even thought of that zarth. Thatwould be easy enough for them to incorporate into their program. I'm sure you figured this out but ... if you have access to a calculator when you make your transfer, just divide the amount you want to move by your total balance.

You want to move $5,000 of your $30,000 balance from the G to the C:

$5000 / $30,000 = .166 or 17%.

Maybe it's the same reason casinos use chips in poker and table games. Losing a chipdoesn't seem as bad as losing cash. :h
