Have any predictions for 2012?

- What will the market do?
- World Series, Super Bowl, etc.??
- Will Obama be re-elected?
- Oscars?
- The price of oil / gold, etc., will hit?
- etc.

Note: If you make political predictions, there's no need to make a big explaination, and more importantly, please don't repond to others' political predictions. You'll risk having the post being deleted, wasting our time and yours. You can take the political discussions over to beltwaytalk.com. Thanks.

- What will the market do?
S&P 500 will see 950 sometime in the first quarter and then up for the rest of the year (not sure exactly how high, but I wouldn't think a market high; not yet)

- World Series, Super Bowl, etc.??
Don't care

- Will Obama be re-elected?
Yes

- Oscars?
Don't care

- The price of oil / gold, etc., will hit?
Oil will hit $130 and then head down while Gold will rise to over $2200...

Any guesses on what the unemployment rate will be at the end of December 2012?Since oil and NG production is starting to boom again in the upper and lower Plains states..I'll say together with all support industries involved (I'm currently working in the industry)..You'll be looking at 7.0 to 7.5, real numbers by year's end, not to mention a real President.

Unemployment at 7% and improving.

The President re-elected in a landslide.

Then the earth ends December 21, when the Mayan calendar runs out.

9-10% It'll go back up here soon once these temp holiday people are laid off. Plus local and state governments are gonna be hurtin for some time to come, our fed gov 15 trillion in tha whole is going to just simply have to make cuts somewhere soon, plus bloomberg article says the BRIC countries have peaked out and are gonna start stagnating.

Unemployment...

Yes, there will be cutbacks in the public sector, but growth in the private sector will lead to different opportunities. I don't know if it will play out in one year, but here's what I recall from my own life: I'm a teacher and my parents were teachers. I was in high school during the recession of the early '90s (the one that did in Bush, Sr.). There were cutbacks throughout the state (and probably nation), and a lot of teachers got their pink slips. By the late '90s, the Internet had created so many more lucrative opportunities that the teachers that had been laid off were glad to have left behind such a lousy job. By 2001, so few people wanted to be teachers that I got my first job without a credential - they issued me an "emergency permit". Now in 2011, the Internet bubble long since burst, we've receded again, and teaching is a highly competetive field where people are sweating pink slips again. The current status won't last forever - or even a long time. Soon enough, we'll be going strong again, and Birchtree will be making serious money.:D

But maybe not until 2013...

1) Unemployment rate at end of 2012: 8.5% to 9.5% (unless USA gets involved in another major skirmish/battle/war)
2) Federal Gov't will continue to look for a balanced budget & generate plan to get control of the deficit (no farther ahead than we are today -- party infighting)
3) President for next term: unsure about this one
4) The Federal Gov't & States will find a solid method to retrieve tax from Internet sales
5) College tuition for my college kids will continue to rise by $5K per year
6) Earthquakes & Tornados will continue to occur in Oklahoma --- Locust are headed this direction
7) NBA: OKC Thunder compete in the Finals
8) NFL: Denver Broncos will be in the running for the finish line
8) Bronco07 will continue to learn from the team @ TSPTalk ---- gaining an outstanding education :toung:

Cheers

- Market: S&P 500: 1350
- World Series: Giants over Yankees
- Superbowl: Steelers over 49ers (that's been my guess since the beginning of the season, though Steelers over Packers looks more likely)
- I'd rather not guess the outcome of the presidential election until after I know the GOP candidate, but for now, I predict Obama wins again (can't beat a complicit media).
- Oscars... no clue. Do they even make Oscar-worthy movies anymore?
- Gold: $1,800
- Oil: $120/barrel

I can't believe no one has predicted the end of the world yet? Oh wait, that's already been done......

I do think that the fear of some apocalyptic event could cause gold to rise over $2000/ounce and the stock market to drop big time as people start pulling their money out to buy gold or survival supplies.

SPX will rise to 1700 and the Dow will rise to 17,000 - I believe this is what I said last year also. Well, sooner or later....

CNN's Fareed Zakaria (http://www.facebook.com/fareedzakaria) :

On America in 2012, I'm bullish. I think the American economy continues to have great strengths. Consumers have rebuilt their balance sheets somewhat. The savings rate has gone from near zero to over 3.5%. Corporations are flush with cash.

Yes, Washington remains dysfunctional, but remember there's a new dynamic at work even there. If Congress does nothing - something it does very well - there are two sequestrations that take place. One cuts spending by $1.2 trillion and one raises taxes by $3.9 trillion. Remember, the Bush tax cuts expire if Congress does nothing, so all of the sudden there are pressures that bring the budget deficit down

So the budget deficit problem could get solved - albeit in a blunt, crude way, but maybe that's how democracy works.

It's easy to spot all the problems we face. But I think there are also some silver linings here and that's where I'm putting my money for 2012.

What do you predict for 2012?

Tim Tebow will cry at least once this upcoming season after a loss..(surprised he didn't yesterday after losing to KC...or did he?)

Somewhere a big earthquake will happen...Some fool will confuse it with mass bird deaths.

Iran will start a war where the US will have to be involved.

N. Korea will get some newer Lincolns.

The US will become almost oil independent.

DOW will break 15,000+

US will all but leave Afganistan

China will start making quality, safe goods for export.

Russia will have another nuclear melt down.
