Same here, December 2018, that's when I'll have 30 full years of "substantial earnings" toward the Windfall Elimination Provision requirement so my social security will not be cut at all (with 2019 being my 30th year thanks to the final paycheck of 2018 and the annual leave check being paid in January 2019). The first 8 years of my career were under CSRS, so that's why I'm subject to the WEP. Grrr.

always learning something, first I heard about this WEP even though I retired last yr at 57, @ 33.5 yrs. What is considered substantial earnings? and then SSI will be federally taxed due to the pension amount being over a certain amount. although I don't get SSI for 4 more yrs. law might change back?

I'm in the 20+ years convo right now. I'm only 31 years old and can at the earliest retire at 50 with 27 years of federal service under my belt.

Max I could go is 57 with the BOP, but if I'm financially set at 50 and made good investments up until then and after, I feel I could go early and do something fun for work after 50 and enjoy the remaining years I have left.

I post my retirement date as the end of 2022 in the vain hope that it will be so.

It's the target I set for myself to work towards. We all need a goal and a plan to get there after all.

Unfortunately you have to be able to afford retirement and given my investment history it looks like I'll be working another 3 - 5 years beyond 2022.
