I think this year it would have been great to take our moderator's long term advice and stay in the market, rather than stay out.
I am still waiting for a year where jumping in and out would produce remarkably superior returns!!

Good questions. If market makes 11% return on SnP or Dow and you are 15% than the effort is worth it. If you manage only 12 or even 13% then the time invested in jumping in and out is not woth extra 2%!!
Harry
2% of your account (Wheels) is a bigger chunk then some folks' entire balance.![]()
Wheels has to be SES or higher!!
Or he has been working with the Gov for over 40 years?!
Harry
TSP trading is exciting and fun for me. So the time I spend doesnt matter. To say that 2% isnt worth it, now that I dont agree with. Especially for anyone early in thier career. Play around with the TSP calculators on the TSP.gov site. You will be amazed what a few bucks can do in compounding earnings over the long term. Getting started early is the key.
My apologies in advance to Tom.
With his last move in the bond market, (F fund) his year 2006 is going to look pretty bad. If your return is down -10% or so than the stock funds that is not good use of your time.
But he is showing the light to rest of us on what not to do with your funds.
I am certain his NEW ideas for 2007 with FRED are far better!
Harry
is it me or does HarrySSSHHHHplotter sound like a bitter Dumbledore?
HarryPotter,
IMO, You seem to have put undue attention on Tom's moves. I don't think your ongoing commentary in this regard is very helpful.
It may be more to your advantage to redirect your energies in a more positive expression. In that way you may be able to contribute to the discourse instead of primarily pointing out the shortcomings of a particular persons approach. We can all see how Tom is doing, we have yet to see how you will do.
We all have our own reasons for making the allocations we choose.
