It's just a caffeinated beverage to give you a boost. It tastes the same warmed up as it did in the first place.

My daughter found it lacking and suggested buying Dunkin Donuts brand. All at the time agreed it was better so that’s what SO has been buying the last several years. I miss those white or yellow label generic brands from the commissary. Maybe I should go back to them. The DD stuff costs over twice what I used to buy for ˝ the amount. A coffee snob I am not. I found this clip from the movie “Bucket List” quite amusing. A hospital patient discovers why his roommate’s special coffee has such a unique taste and aroma.

Bucket List was a good movie. Great coffee clip.

Working second shift and my responsibility was keeping an eye on the lube oil pumps and equipment coolers for leaks and mop up any spills. Plus I had to make the coffee for the shift. Never drank coffee let alone how to make coffee and explained to the crew maybe someone else should make the coffee. NOPE!! it's your job. So, I go to make coffee. it's a 12 cup pot so I figured it would be faster if I use hot water and since it was 12 cups I put in 12 scoops. Honestly I had no clue. Well needless to say they thought about stringing me up after the first swig, but at least I didn't have to make coffee any more.
Coffee story…this is no s**t. (historical note, military stories must begin with that just as fairy tales must begin with “once upon a time”)

The lowest ranking guy always made the coffee in the maintenance shelter. We had a brand-new skeeter wing who didn’t drink coffee and had never made coffee in his life. Didn’t matter, us two stripers wouldn’t help. The NCOs wouldn’t help. So he did much the same as nasa and filled the basket of the 30 cup pot to the top with grounds. All were busy giving skeeter wing crap about his coffee making skills when the Maintenance superintendent (CMSgt) showed up unexpectedly. He, of course, was offered a cup of coffee by the shift chief. He drank it and declared that “at least you guys know how to make coffee”.

Avoid coffee you see sitting on the hot burner...if it sits there for more than 15 minutes, the bottom part gets burnt and starts to taste like battery acid!

Guvmint coffee! Could be worse. I had a Cajun boss who came in early and dumped about 8-10 scoops of coffee in the Mr. Coffee every dang day! Could barely stir it let alone drink it. Yuck!

My story is different: Was at my first duty assignment on night shift. They put me in for coffee maker detail immediately. First pot of the night got me noticed and I was a favorite from then on out. They made me the "senior coffeemaker in charge" - LOL - promotion. Got me Airman of the Quarter nomination (which I boarded and won). I grew up on crushed beans in a pot, filtered when served through a mesh colander.
I don't miss those coffee days and am now considered a snob.

Just for Tom, on the lighter side. My personal alltime fave is Kenya AA-hard to find, even at Starbucks sometimes. I discovered a new runner up earlier this year, but the store only stocked it for a few weeks, new brand. I got to buy 2 bags, then they quit stocking it, got the shelf full of other varieties/roasts under the new brand, just not that variety. LaVazza Santa Marta. light/mdm roast. mmmmm. I may have to go online and get that one over the net on occasion, not something I ordinarily would do but I liked it that much.

Thanks. Yeah, it's online. The problem with ordering online is that shipping cost, although I didn't check their rates. But that's why I am strictly using Amazon (or local shops), but I see ebay sells a lot (even the unroasted beans) with some offering free shipping.

Apparently, I have never had a great cup of coffee in my life, or even good really, since I've always had the drip/burner thingy or those K-cups. It was always fine with me though, but perhaps the Army ruined my taste buds. I just drink tea now because I got tired of coffee and maybe the crap I was drinking is why. Of course, I use bags, so I'm probably not drinking good tea either.............

I didn't drink much coffee before I was 30 and it was probably a few years after that that I had "the cup" that changed it for me. You'll know it when you have it.

Even though that same coffee shop where I had that 1st great cup is still around today (maybe 15+ years later), it seemed like the coffee started to move more toward "regular" coffee, and I was on a quest to find "it" again.

I've made some good coffee over the years but I finally had that religious experience again in that Woods Coffee shop I mentioned in the 1st post. So I'm reviving the quest - with a little more vigor - because I never really did stop pursuing it.

Damn! So that was the secret to making Airman of the Month/Quarter. 24 years and I never figured it out.

I do prefer to grind the beans myself but today it's plain Old Folgers Colombian Dark and it's pretty darn good.

My current favorite is the Costa Rican from World Market stores, very smooth and good flavor, and a good price. It must be well liked because its always sold out on the shelves, it comes in beans but I grind it there because I'm lazy. I also had to get Death Wish from Amazon to give it a shot, its touted as the Strongest Coffee but it calls for double the dose of what I normally add to the pot.
