Happy Halloween everyone. Been a sloooow night here so far. 4 kids in 45 minutes. Looks like there will be no reason to implement my plan for saving candy for myself. Maybe, time will tell.

Well, there is a box of 'nilla wafers on the counter. No idea why. I figure we could crack that open and throw one wafer in to each bag and then someone will have to eat the candy later.

Hows it going in your neck of the woods?

rainy damp night, cool, not cold. 2 callers to this point. some years more, some less. these days parents take their kids into town, let the businesses hand out candy to the little ones before dark. starting around 4pm. I had one tiny tot come to the door with her young father around 6, her first trick or treat, I could tell, she was still wrapping her brain around the whole idea of somebody putting candy in her little bucket. a boy, prolly jr high, came by 1/2 hour later. Cars driving up the street now and then, deeper into the neighborhood coming back from town, they aren't cruising the homeowners along our street, just want to get the kids home.

Sitting on the side of the highway waiting to catch speeding drivers, a state trooper sees a car puttering along at 22 MPH.
Thinking to himself, "This driver is just as dangerous as a speeder," so he turns on his lights and siren and pulls the driver over.

Approaching the car, he notices that there are five old ladies- two in the front seat, and three in the back- all with eyes wide open & white as a ghost.

The driver, obviously confused, says to him:
"Officer, I don't understand...I was doing exactly the speed limit...What's the problem?"

"Ma'am," the officer replies, "You weren't speeding, but you should know that driving slower than the speed limit can also be a danger to other drivers."

"Slower than the speed limit?" she asked..."No sir, I was driving the speed limit exactly...
Twenty-Two miles an hour," the old lady says.

The State Trooper, trying to contain a chuckle, explains to her that "22" was the Route number, not the speed limit.

A bit embarrassed, the old lady grinned and thanked the officer for pointing out her error.

"But before I let you go, Ma'am, I have to ask...Is everyone in this car okay?
These women seem awfully shaken and they haven't muttered a single peep this whole time," the trooper asks.

"Oh, they'll be alright in a minute, officer..We just got off Route 119."

Happy Halloween or whatever you choose to call this pagan festival of getting free stuff.

Got home late due to strange system malfunctions at the J.O.B. Lot's of strange driving but saw few kids in costume, just a few adults. Some may just have been wearing their normal attire but I noticed tonight.

The motivation to post is a question. If you walk up to a house with the outside lights on, though it is not decorated in any festive way, and see a round white lighted thing surrounded by a shiny housing would you not expect to have to press the white light to get a response from the house? I have observed this behavior at least once tonight. I have also observed this behavior from delivery people. Yes I have checked and the white light when pressed does actuate an obnoxious chimey thing.

Perhaps the technology involved is too much for the locals? Perhaps there is something I don't know about the etiquette involved in a person approaching a house door?

Whatever, traffic here has been very light. Was the same last year. Pickings are too slim in the neighborhood? Not too many lights on and only a couple houses decorated.

As an ex-delivery person I would push the white button, wait 5 seconds, maybe 2, and then knock loudly. Sometimes the owners have the tv on or music on loudly and can't hear the chimes most times in my experience. Sometimes they're in the lua or getting out of the shower. Sometimes knocking loudly along with pushing the white button with the chimey sound sent a message to get to the door.

Been a long time since anyone posted here. I am sitting on my patio enjoying 96 degrees. High today I saw was 111F. I don't really care what that sensor between the runways at PHX said.

In honor of some things posted elsewhere, I am going to try to insert a video. Maybe I am losing it.

Enjoy the holiday and try to remember the meaning. Even if you don't like the founding fathers.

99 on our patio (feels like 107). Had to grill some smoked sausage to go with the fresh Lima beans, and squash with onions.
But, it was cooler here than our place at the lake. 100 there (feels like 111).
But, we're in for a cool snap on Tuesday. Suppose to only 90 and overcast. Think I'll wet a hook.
