When its cold in one part of the country, it's always hot in another part of the country. what goes up must come down-air currents and barometric pressures. El Ninos/La Ninas. it's warmer over here this year already than its been in the 14 years I've been here. already mowed 3 times this spring, never mowed in March before. a first for me. El Nino on steroids. this isn't the first el nino I've been through, but the biggest yet so far.

Lawn is mowed. All 13 toes intact. PPE put away to be washed according to instructions. One alarming thing, when I plugged the laptop power supply in it drew an arc. As they usually do. R is 0Ω when a potential is first applied to a transformer. Then the field builds up and it draws less current. Unless...

I do sometimes make light of the safety rules from work as applied to the home. They do apply at home as well. Stand to the side when plugging things in. Stand to the side with the open door between you and the breaker when resetting a breaker in an electrical panel. Use your non primary hand (I never do this, hard to remember).

I have plugged in a 115 volt power cord to a direct short and it did explode. The receptacle or outlet actually blew the steel face plate off and was hanging there. The power cord plug came apart. My hand and thumbnail were black. It was fed from a 15 amp circuit breaker. "Experts" said it was a one in a million thing. And it was all my fault. Whatever, just be ware.

I also make fun of the power equipment rules. The mower will take whatever it is offered. It will send debris at high velocity. Be safe at all times.

OK. I mentioned it. Or replied to nnuut. Take all talk about global warming/cooling/climate change to *global warming.

Wife came back from shopping and stopped at the örganic ""sawdust bread store". I really like that tooth breaking gritty bread, unidentifiable meat and brown leafy stuff. She says the bill was only $40 but thinks the bread was $3. She did buy some beer. I better shut up and chew carefully.

I still haven't ordered that laptop. Maybe a nap instead?

Refuting "Global" warming by citing what is occurring "locally"??

That's what weather does, it's random and we can't change that, it's always been that way and it will repeat until it quits working which will happen.

You went from discussing weather, to commenting on the markets all in one sentence

    Still haven't ordered the laptop.

Aleven, it ain't you, see all the posts. And I did start it.

I might change this to ambushed on the patio. The question part of it ought to go to the day job. Whatever.

Out of the blue, comes a demand to reinstate the military SBP during the open season. I did expain that there are not open seasons except under special circumstances. I also explained she signed the paper back in 96. I am told I just don't want to do it and <unnamed friend> says I can if I want to. Arrrrggggghhh!

So I try to explain how much she gets if I die while an active fed employee under FERS. And I find I am not actually sure. It is all spelled out on my employee web site but a new policy says we cannot log in to that from home and are discouraged to do "personal stuff" at work. Things are getting stranger all the time at work BTW.

OPM site is vague about it to say the least. Uses the word "may" a lot then never explains.

So, keep it simple. I have 10 years fed service. I have been married to the lovely woman more than 9 months. We have no children. I die sitting here on the patio. No accident, no foul play.

She receives a vaguely described lump sum (is it the same as if I had less than 10 years?) and an annuity equal to 50% of what I would get if I retired today? Does anyone know how this really works? She is over 55 so don't tell me that stuff. And, I don't care about FEHB or Tricare. I do care but do not clutter up the question with that stuff.

I don't know if your agency participates in "Employee Express", but if it does, you can log in and generate what is called your employee benefit statement. That outlines not only when you are eligible to retire, and what dollar amount to expect, but also contains what FERS survivor benefit your wife (and/or children, if so equipped) can expect in the unfortunate event you die on the job. And what your FEGLI will pay out if and when you die.

Check it out- find the link that says employee benefit statement.

The survivors information is contained in section "m" of the employee benefit statement. Yes , under FERS, you have to have ten years if service in order for your spouse to get a survivor annuity.

Yes, we have something called ESS. Can no longer log in outside a .gov domain for security reasons. I mentioned that in the post.

Your employeeeeexpress does not apply to me.
