    Talking Boxing Ring

This is a silly concept. Instead of banning people who start fights, maybe we could have a thread called the School Yard or something like that. If a verbal war starts in a thread, instead of deleting the posts, a moderator can move it to the Yard (or Ring, or Octagon, or whatever!). It could be a place with no rules and has a warning for those whose eyes are too sensitive to read such posts.

    It's a bit base, I know, but it's a thought.

The problem with that is self discipline. The fight escalates and then one person posts in another thread while the other follows them and tries to antagonize or pick a fight.

The entertainment valve of these "fights" is not so high that the Moderators are willing to chase these people around making sure they stay in the "Fight Thread". It will only escalate the problem, IMHO.

IMHO, the real answer is respect. We all have a different idea or opinion and we should respect that. I'm certainly not perfect, but wearing the Moderator hat I force myself to stand in each persons shoes. Nobody like to have someone taking shots at them at every turn. It is annoying at best. Verbal wars don't solve anything, IMO. They just make the other people (lurkers) uncomfortable. Verbal wars also tend to get personal.

I will add the I have been on other MB were the key phrase is "stay on topic". I would guess that is to keep the MB focused and eliminate fighting.

I can see that. Some of the people on this board seem to know a bit more about others than is public. It would be pretty bad if someone got so angry they gave away a bunch of personal info.

So, who wants to fight my monkeys? They're jumping all over the place and getting a bit out of hand. I need some help!!!

    *hey! put that down!*

Oh, man. They're ruining my house.

It's the only way to keep the CHILDREN in control. If they act like that they aren't adults and have NOTHING to contribute to the Board. Now let's talk about the benefits of RED WINE to your diet!!!

They can be entertaining, especially when your a participant (hence the sarcasm of my avatar and signature) - but for most folks, they are more of an irritant then anything.

A "boxing ring" thread has been started a couple of times - but it has never worked. I think that when someone is hell bent on humiliating another member, they want the character assassination to be as public as possible (I know I'm guilty as charged).

Ultimately, nothing is achieved - I agree with Norman, there's no place for it on the board.

That makes sense. By the way, I'm laughing at the types of ads that are popping up on this thread - they're all about fight videos, dog fights, girl fights, etc.

The title of the thread is "Boxing Ring"...
If it was the "Bible Ring" Google would send advertisements for bibles!
    or
    it's a mysterious phenonom!

I know where this could lead..... No! No! lets not go there!..........Don't even think it!

T keeps things open for freedom to speak. Google and AdSense might be confused over the real issue!... I don't know! However, I'm a moderator, if a thread needs permanent closing (deleting) it's up to T. I accidentally deleted a thread a year ago. Not going there again!.....
