I don't think I'm giving away the shop if I tell you I have lost $14K since Jan 1. Would appreciate people's suggestions and advice on whether to retreat or stay invested based on what they anticipate the market will do.

PS My tendency is to retreat to G but I hate giving up the opportunity to possibly gain back. I'm fully invested in stocks right now. Thank you in advance.

    WW,

It depends on how soon you need the $$$. Historically, stocks have outperformed bonds over 5+ year periods. You haven't lost anything unless you sell - you still have all of your shares. If you're retiring in a year or two and need the income, you might consider cutting some of your losses. If you're retiring in 10-20 years, relax, stay where you are (assuming you're well diversified and not 100% in one fund), and buy more stocks. They're cheap compared to last year. Of course, if you can reach your investment goals with a 5-6% return, you should have been 100% in the G Fund all along.

If you sell now - you've bought high and are selling low! Not a recipe for investing success!

Finally, if anyone claims to know where the stock market is going, they don't.....run! :^

    WW...Greg
    Some thoughts!
TSP is made up of index funds. They are not single funds or sector funds that can turn bad within themselves. TSP funds ie the C fund will follow the S&P. The TSP funds C and S will come back up. I is dependent on the intnl mkt + the dollar, and is the more risky of the 3. The F-fund is floundering along with the raising of rates.
G fund pays 0.01 about every 6 days.

Daily charts and talk can be hypnotic, and bum sentiment doesn't help either. I'm 15C, 15S and 10I. I will not sell low. So I'll wait till the market finds a bottom (where ever) and starts back up (I Assume in a bear cycle) Add some money and wait for the cycle to run out of steam, and sell high (hopefully).

It's not as bad as it seems! Look at some weekly / yearly charts. Remember the funds are following the market, they are index funds.

I will never sell low unless the fund is a dog, in which case it was a bad sellection in the first place.

Hang in there, Cool A bud helps! Spaf

I think the G-fund is the way to go until it is clear that the market is no longer going down.
