Hi Cactus.

I find it to be ridiculous that they seem to do this every couple years & then wonder why more and more folks choose to leave the TSP as soon as they are able...
Why pay the higher TSP fees AND...
Maybe Birchtree rolled his TSP over to Vanguard for much lower fees?
Just got an email from the TSP about the G-Fund:
G Fund and the debt limit
As of today, March 16, 2017, the U.S. Treasury was unable to fully invest the Government Securities...
Hmmmmm, I'm not so sure about that. Have you seen the fees of the "Admiral" funds over at Vanguard? (VTSAX) for example is .05% w/no other hidden fees. I thought that's about as low a fee as you can...
1) Vanguard IMHO is THE BEST because of their industry leading LOW FEES, which they claim are 82% less than the industry avg!
So, you'll want to take FULL advantage of finding funds with LOW...
Thanks, I wish. I'm still in kind of the advanced beginner stage - maybe approaching beginning intermediate??? It's about 2 to 2.5 years of practicing a few hours here & there... I know several...
Wow, guy seems to do a nice job... S&P 2039 = run for the exits.
Update: It's now mid to late 40's with about 15 years till retirement.
Current allocation/distribution of funds - as of today's IFT is:
20 G
50 C
10 S
20 I
Current contributions:
60 C
Wow, thanks - great info & very helpful. I didn't realize you were retired!
I'm assuming you're not eligible (YET) to roll your TSP to an IRA - and that's why you're waiting till 2017? Otherwise,...
Whew... okay, thanks!
Thanks, that is helpful - but it's still confusing trying to figure it all out.
Let's say in 2015 - you gross $100K - but your AGI is exactly $75K (this is after you adjust for TSP & all the other...
Thanks, but no kids... hehehe... we have 3 cats though... maybe we can open a ROTH for each cat... and pay them a salary to sit around the house - that way their "earned income" can fund each of...
That is what we're trying to do... max out the TSP at the full $18K AND ALSO max out BOTH of our Vanguard ROTH IRA's at $5500 x 2 = $11K.
Personally, I think it's wise to have both types (IRA &...
Yes, I missed the deadline to further edit... but I was going to also add that you might consider finding some kind of tax professional/estate planner - someone who specializes in this very type of...
I'd research it a bit more (and probably check with a tax pro). I could have sworn I saw something about being able to change your mind - on page 30 - something about "recharacterize contribution"...
Thank you!
Is your the tax bracket you're in based on gross income - or based on your AGI? I would think the latter - but don't remember.

Hi Birchtree! Could you go noob 101 - and explain the advantages/disadvantages (in layman's terminology) of rolling from the TSP to an IRA? I'm assuming 2017 is when you plan to retire??? Do you roll...
Ohhhhhh, okay.
I was under the impression that once you move up into a higher tax bracket... ALL of your income is then taxed at the higher percentage of that bracket. I wasn't aware that just...
Hehehehehe. Yeah, she's a Taurus... I've learned one thing: you DON'T MESS WITH A BULL!!!
I just spoke to Vanguard - a "retirement specialist" and he looked over our account and confirmed that we are indeed eligible to contribute $18K TSP + $5,500 ROTH + $5,500 ROTH = a grand total of...
OK, so we are under age 50. Married filing joint. Make well under the limit. So, we can contribute $18K to TSP AND $5500 ROTH IRA (MINE) + $5500 (SPOUSE) = $29,000K.
Correct?
As for the...
Part of the advantage of maxing out the TSP contribution is that it lowers our AGI by $18k, right? I'm not sure what the tax brackets are (off the top of my head) - but maxing out the TSP could lower...
