Let me answer for Zebra since we were both in the same boat, and apparently like me since he retired he doesn't get on here very often now. We both retired from the AF and didn't do a "buy back." Both of us are "triple-dippers" in that we draw SS, military retirement and fed retirement. And like Alabama, Louisiana does not tax any of it. Since my wife is still employed and also serves in the Louisiana Air National Guard, I don't have to tap into my TSP, so I don't pay a penny in state income tax.

Hey Z, I'm thinking about getting a small boat to use on the lake across the street from me. We are limited to a 5 hp motor, but I'm thinking something small enough for me and a trolling motor since you could call it a very large pond or a very small lake. lol At one time, the state record for large-mouth bass for a body of water it's size, came out of it.

And to echo Zebra, life after retirement is good. No, make that great.

I am looking at this again. I didn't consider it before interest would be due because "common knowledge" then was that if I did a "buy back" my annuity would stop. A couple years ago "common knowledge" became that the military annuity would not stop until the FERS (in my case) annuity began. I did some research and the latter appears to be true. Now the price for 24 years is high after 15 years.

Whatever about that "common knowledge". Just curious, did you pay the deposit and convert it all to GS-13 high three?
