Because, as it says in the article, women live longer.

that is because of the added mental health visits and psychological counseling sessions it takes on average to maintain a healthy female, although individual costs may vary considerably and sometimes range much higher.

I would think that those cost would decrease significantly once he starts pushing up daisies.
