These are great questions that I would like to know more about. I have an account with Vanguard and Schwab and even a small IRA . What Index funds do you trade and are they free trades since they are index or mutual funds?
So I have some separate funds in vanguard IRA account that I rolled over. Strategy is to buy Indexed funds based on the TSP signal. Yes it does not let me go in and out; but because vanguard has so many choices of indexed funds, and the time period of the TSP signal is so long, I can move funds back and forth to several different ones, as there are several that are generally indexed. Vangaurd has limits to move in and out, but because there are so many choices you can get around the limits of moving funds around, within reason of course.
Only question I have yet to get an answer on, is since the funds are IRA, are there any tax penalties from moving into another fund, or leaving it? As long as I am just exchanging funds?
Would I be better off transferring everything to a self directed IRA that lets me go into or out of ETF? Are there self directed IRA account that let you do that? (Vanguard does not have anything like that).

Thanks for the reply. Pretty smart!

Vanguard
Looking at the old message reply, and am liking the guide, to which vanguard to pick. Tax Deferred Portfolios are interesting, and definitely am switching to VFITX as equivalent to G for the next week or so.
if I get an indication I should switch to C or I will start looking at VISVX.
I don't believe VFITX is comparable to a stable value fund like the G Fund. One reason why I haven't left TSP is that option to draw no risk interest which I lack in our IRA's and taxable trading account. I have stable value in our 457k/401k funds too. VISVX was down -.35% yesterday and is comparable to our F Fund.
