Tom, Thanks for all the help. I don't understand half of the things you guys talk about but enjoy reading the MLK_MAN VS. MT posts. I have a question about my monthly allocations. Should I have my monthly investment go directly into the G fund and then conduct an interfund transfer? What do you suggest. Thanks for starting TSP Talk for guys like me. :^

I have been splitting my contributions 50/50 for years in C and S but others have suggested putting them in G for timing reasons. I haven't done my homework on that one.
One reason I don't change my contributions very often is that I make so many interfund transfers that it makes italmost a non factor. As you probably know, your entire balance gets moved when you do a transfer so if you have a fair balance, the small amount we contribute each payday, and the earnings it makes in between transfers, compared to what is happening with the bulk of the balance, doesn't affect my account very much.
It's just a judgement call.

Hey Tom, a penny saved is a penny earned!! :^
tsptalk wrote:No I haven't researched it. Perhaps MT has......I have a life.:PTrue. As I said, I wouldn't dismis it bit I just haven't really noticed that pattern of stocks jumping on payday. If you have researched this I'd be interested in hearing about it.
Thanks!

I don't even know when they get deposited or anything else. Just easier to me to put it in G and know that it's gonna be there when I have to "hide out" in G for awhile. Just trying to figure out a "lazy" man's way to being a millionaire. :^You can always go in and switch it to another fund if you feelthat particular fund is going to be going up.
I've operated under the assumption that our allocation purchases the shares at the closing price on Friday (payday). I'll check my quarterly TSP statement at home and get back to you on that one.
I agree with Tom on this one - when the allocation is in the hundreds, and your overall balance is in the many thousands, whatever gain/loss you experience on that allocation is piddly in the grand scheme of things - and it probably evens out over time whichever way you choose to do it.
I haven't even hit 2 years of federal service yet, and my bi-weekly allocations are already tiny compared to the overall account balance - and that is with maximum witholding.
