Red face Re: Roth TSP Mentioned

Didn't realize that there's a bill that's been introduced for Roth TSP.

Does anyone know what we, as military members, can and can not do to voice support for this? What would be most effective?

Fedsmith.com did a write up on this as well. He call this a sell out of federal employees by congress.

The Roth and the new fee reporting requirements are really the only good things about it. "Automatic" signup of a minimum 3% without education about the opt out/reduction features is NOT a good thing for young 5/7/9 feds. You know HR's are not going to tell them about it.

I guess HR 5797 has evolved into HR 6500, which is where the "sellout" was added.

On the military side, if this proposal became official, more military members would definitely contribute. However, traditional 20 yr retirement pension could change because of this. We would love the Roth TSP, but not as a result of changing or adjusting the current 20 yr retirement benefit.

Automatic sign up when you loose 30% of your principal? There ought to be a guaranteed rate of return if DoD plans to automatically enroll our military members.

The automatic rate of return? GO toss your money in the G fund if you want that, otherwise no way to stay up with inflation over your career.
