TSP Talk Weekly Wrap Up

by TommyIV on 08-05-2017 at 06:46 PM
Stocks were mixed this week as we saw a slight gain in large caps with some losses in small caps. The S&P 500 (C-fund) traded in a tight range for the week despite catalysts from earnings reports and the jobs report Friday. Stocks seemed to have lost their momentum we've seen the past few months but this has not yet provoked stock owners to sell. It will be interesting to see what will be the spark of the next big move in the market; though algorithms will most likely decided that one.

Stocks were mixed this week as more earnings reports came in along with the FOMC meeting. Poor earnings reports kept U.S. stocks down keeping large caps flat and dropping small caps in value. Some of the early losses were regained intraday.

We will see more earnings reports coming in next week and conditions are still favorable for the bulls.

Stocks saw gains across the major indices this week with the help of Janet Yellen's dovish comments nearly ensuring no more rate hikes until the end of the year or later. Those gains were produced Wednesday after the bears put on some pressure the day before with the help of some political drama. However, Yellen's testimony blew away the bears' arsenal and the beginning of earnings season Friday was the perfect bait for new buyers.

The week ended with the C and S-fund both with more

Stocks were mixed this short holiday week with a slight gain in large caps (C-fund) and a slight loss in small caps (S-fund). The action bounced back and forth between buying and selling which tested support, resistance and moving averages. The jobs report came out Friday exceeding expectations with 220,000 jobs added after an expectation 173,000. This sent large stocks up and that enable them to end the week back above positive territory.

The I-fund lagged with a loss of 0.47% and
