TSP Talk Weekly Wrap Up

by TommyIV on 11-18-2017 at 06:01 PM
Pressure was put on stocks the first half of the week with a string of weak opens but dip buyers and a rally Thursday kept the damage to a minimum. Dip buyers were there at every opportunity cushioning the bears attempt to turn this market around. The market rallied Thursday after good earnings reports and a tax bill passed by the House of Representatives that cut corporate taxes. The rally pressed stocks into positive territory for the week but some of the gains were sold off Friday to drop large

Stocks slipped this week as the Senate put out their version of the tax bill which had a few significant contrasts with the House version. One contrast is the Senate plan would delay the corporate tax-rate cut until 2019 rather than 2018. Stocks produced more gains and another record high after spending most of the week below Monday's open. It seemed as though the bears were finally making their move and we were going to see a shift in the recent momentum. That was the case for the first half of the week but by mid-Wednesday the bulls were back in business and losses began to be erased. Good earnings reports from just a handful of mostly big name tech stocks shut the bears down Friday and the S&P 500 produced new highs and ended

The relentless uptrend of stocks continued this week despite poor earnings reports and lackluster news on the road to tax cuts. Volume remains low through all of this so whoever is still trading seems to be buying while everyone else is holding tight to stocks until everyone else decides to sell. What will spark a sell off is uncertain. Bad news does not affect the market anymore with bad earnings reports and poor economic news stories being the case this week. Those who have ridden the trend has
