    burros-ark 161204

burros-ark update: a little bit of movement among a couple arkers and the markets seem to be cooling off some. that is quite the political fallout with the boom rocket ride up the last few weeks so a hangover is to be expected. I think it’s pretty clear there’s been a paradigm shift in the world, political, financial, social, all of it is in flux. in theory, this is a great thing for a trader if you are comfortable in chaos, but it is a huge negative for the mom-and-pops who just want a smooth glide path into the sunset. anyways, no need to get all worked up about it, it appears the people – even in the midst of an populist uprising – have no desire to starve and chop and burn the elite, we need them to do some of those elite things still, but from now on let them eat cake.

burros-ark signal: hold. yep, just keep on hangin on. in all honesty, my personal account is probably just gonna ride out the year for a break-even with inflation sort of, depending on how you calculate inflation, unless i see a chance to slay the dragon. and the ark? well, risk has been off on the el vira indicator for a looooong time, and rarely this year has the cumulative exposure been at or above an ultra-conservative 40% long. hold. i just don’t see any possible event on the horizon that will bump enough ark turtles off their comfortable and safe rocks and make some waves in the pond. so we hold.

burros-ark stuff: so… a personal question… no, not 34b or about 6” or whatever your hangup, it’s about shaving… so a few months ago bought a bunch of handcrafted soaps off the internet (haven’t used the hogwash yet) but it had some shaving disks and a boar brush and porcelin cup that came with it. I've discovered it takes a few more minutes in the morning to shave but I really like the ritual of warming the bristles and lathering the soap and brushing and rubbing and painting it on, it’s like a miniture facial massage every morning. and i get a really close shave, smooth as a baby’s ass (but i’ve never shaved a baby’s ass – don’t misquote me on that part). and the soap lasts forever this way, over 3 months on the disk i first started using and i would’ve gone through 2 cans of gel in that same time for about quadruple the price. i don’t use a straight razor or old-fashioned single blade, i use a cartridge and handle setup off the internet for about $1.75 each and they last 2 weeks, still using the same handle the original starter setup came with and have two more if you include my son’s setup too. but the brush i use is a boar bristle and it is starting to break down. i did some research and badger bristle is the way to go. now you can get really fancy with that stuff and I’m not spending over $100 for a man bathroom trinket, but i’m going to upgrade to a badger brush. and instead of setting it on it’s base in the cabinet i’m also buying a $10 chrome stand that holds the razor and brush in the right positions off the counter. i looked at some sets that are really fancy but they all are missing the practical design stuff. so i bought a $5 sierra cup in stainless steel for the soap disk to go with it that will hang from the post and it all kind of matches in a simple solution kind of way. so… the question… does anybody here shave the old fashioned way with a brush and soap and hot water or is it all gillette mach 5000 disposable china stuff and pink lady plastic schicks? also, another question, or an offer… if you want a really close shave and to glow when done, send me a pm… trust me on this one i’ve got a gentle hand and a silver tongue, smooth.

I reckon Im a young'un on here (34), but I love using shaving soap and a brush. I just use the cheap walmart beaver brush. Last one I got came with a plastic stand to hold the brush. I still use a Mach 3 or whatever (same kind my wife uses so we can share blades). Occasionally, I steal some of my wife's shaving cream. That women's shaving cream is AWESOME. Oh yeah, Im a National Guard recruiter, so I have to shave every day.

ok, don't read this any more if you can't handle some cuss words, strange twists of fate, and other odd things.

so long story, but last night i get me a damn near new cowboy cadillac, just in time. as i'm leaving the dealer the snow is flying and i turn on the radio and i can't figure out any of the buttons and the roads are slick slick slick so i'm stuck with whatever is playing. it is 'crazy on you' by heart. and i love my new pickup and it was a crazy day so far so good song right? fate?

oh no, it was a warning, i just didn't realize it at the moment. then god opens the sky and dumps it hard, full out blizzard overnight. went crazy on us for sure. it takes a lot to shut down north dakota, these things happen every so often, and i've been lots of places and seen lots of things. but out here there is only one term for it, this is 'fook me runnin' weather. made half the state sit down and hole up. wheeeee!

so here is my new horse, she's a beauty. this is thawed out and after some other misadventures this morning, drifts knee high to a gwasshoppa, except the hoppa is dead and frozen, but you take what it gives you.

my neighbor the lutheran pastor is not going anywhere today in that little red rocket. nobody should go anywhere today. cars all over in the ditch, stuck or bashed into each other or the trees. when someone knocks on your door out here times like these you take them in and make a fresh pot of coffee and warm them up and grab your shovel and you fix it, together, no matter who you are. because there will always come a time when you need your neighbor too, so you pay it forward. it keeps folks humble, and the riff raff out.

i'm supposed to be in fargo this evening, for a big shindig work thing tomorrow morning bright and early. schools shut down, work shut down. and me with my new horse, champing at the bit. but that is east of here so i got the wind at my back, take it in low and slow. maybe i'll do that later. wheee!

the only thing open is my friend scarey shari at the bottles and jugs, she is giving out free fireball shots, got to keep warm out there you know.

i go out to start my pickup and let it thaw and after tromping through the drifts and listening to the radio for a bit (i still can't figure out how to change the station) then i notice something funny about the wind. i knew this before but this is a pretty good example. when it is open and flat and nothing in the way (that is pretty much everywhere out here) the wind will strip you bare to the bone. it can kill you. and on the lee side it stops and dumps its load. it can go from clear and open to 3' drifts and brick wall in a heartbeat. do not get caught on the wrong side of that dime. this is a good lesson to learn not the hard way.

oh but look at my horse, she got nice hips huh? a beauty.

and first song on the radio when i start it up is 'wheel in the sky' by journey. life is good when it keeps turning, no argument from me there. the stereo rocks! and next song is rolling stones no satisfaction. god is fookin with me for sure. i still can't figure out how to change the dial.

so this is my new love. it's like a three bedroom apartment, you could sleep one on the back seat, one on the back floor, and one up front. anywhere. and if they want to be all prim and proper then i can haul three each at 333.33 lbs each upright with seatbelts, plus baggage. oh man i need to get me some different friends.

    Attachment 40228

ah hell, my current friends are good enough. but i'm afraid to go start it again because of what god might play on the radio. i sent my kid down to go get the book so he can figure out how to change it. strange days indeed.

you know what you do with a horse like this, right? when called you have to hammer down stand on it and run it straight into the teeth, choke on it demon, not today satan, not today.

thank you lord, life is good.
