    Default Zacattacker's attack strategy...

I have been putting money in the TSP for years but always in the G, I never had a login and didn't really have time to check it anyway. For years I could have been making better returns, I just was uneducated on how and when to and what each fund was. When the I fund was at $10 back in March I put all of my funds into the C,S, and I @ 20%, 20%, and 60%. That was a total of about $4500 and now I am at $8000 with a continuous 10% contribution each month. My PIP for the month of June is 36%.

I also have been contributing to a Roth @ about $200 a month and am almost maxed out for the year @ $3600. Stock markets are so hard to deal with unless you read your butt off and check it all the time. I have about $2000 invested on various stocks on etrade. My strategy is to just watch the numbers and play it by ear. If I am not comfortable with what I am seeing than I will put it in the G but for now since I am 27 I have time to fluxuate.

    Zac,
Most of these people only remember 27 because of the car they had then (Me included)
But you will do well here. There is enormous TSP wisdom in here and I take it embarrasingly and they never complain.
The market is like a wheelbarrow- it stands still until someone pushes it. Little help here.

You should feel fortunate because you have found the light in time before serious consequences developed. Dollar cost averaging into any of the stock funds will become profitable over time - you are now on the right track for substantial accumulations over your remaining work history. And now the pricing is absolutely golden.

    Zac,

What do you do in the Air Force? I was AF 70 to 74. Basic training, 9 months tech school ( Chanute AFB) and Minuteman Missles, Francis E. Warren AFB, Cheyenne, WY.
May the force be with us.

Hello and Welcome to the TSPCircus,
I wish I had knowledge of this site back when I 1st started with the fed's. Be careful, Watch the Leaderboard and "Follow the Leaders" and you should be very profitable.

    zac
as mentioned by several members earlier, we never had any guidance as to what to do with our retirement money. and like you most had it in the G ( this is a tragic and costly mistake). but if you don't know you don't know. I also wish I had found this site way back when I did not know S_it. and now they step in and want to HELP us manage our money by limiting our transactions, what a joke !!!! where was the help when my money was sitting in the G fund for years ????? anyway this site is EXCELLENT. I have 4 years before eligibility, you are very fortunate that you have TIME on your side. good luck and welcome.

The absolute shame is to be a new guy with no money in a bull market. In TSP it takes years and several cycles to obtain growth and now the grey set is ready to hit the targets - all they need is courage.

    Zac,

How did you find this site?
And you should spread the word to anyone who is the least bit interested in taking an active interest in their TSP.

Tom has been doing a good thing here.
