Thanks again PessOptimist for the tip. This morning after powering up my computer, I checked my drives and my missing drive has reappeared. I copied files to it and it works fine. If I get an email from Microsoft I'll keep it for reference.

You are welcome but I did nothing. As Tom said in his original reply:

Wish I could help, but I usually just play hit and miss with that stuff until it works, then I forget what worked. reboot, hit that, unplug this, plug in, reboot, look for hardware, etc.

Nnuut's suggestion may or may not have worked as well. No one (including the MS "tech support peeps") will ever know what really happened. Glad your E drive came back. Maybe it was in the drawer with that old Zip drive you've been saving

I really hesitated to suggest the restore point as I had an older machine being forced to run XP that restored to the point of the XP install and required me to reinstall all the apps again

I could go on and on (all ready have) but maybe I should mosey on over to the lounge and start a thread about PC problems we have all had at home and work. (OPSEC considered of course)
