Just found out about this site! Where was it 16 years ago! I've got 3yrs to go until I can retire, but I think I will hang around another 5 after that. Kids will be in college.

    I'm currently 50%G and 50%C:^

Welcome!! I too am looking about 3 years or less; have made a good deal here by manipulating my funds....learn, take risks and then add savings to TSP.

Welcome 74vetguy! I wanted to create this site years ago but I didn't get serious about it until the daily record keeping system was in place. Now we can play more.

I'm just glad you did. I will be watching a few people for a while and then maybe follow.

Hey Tom, while I am a "new" member I have been monitoring your site for about a year. I find your advice and the advice of the members to be an incredibly valuable asset (perhaps that is because I have made money in the past 14 months J/K). Seriously though thanks for starting this up. Ipromote this site heavily to my fellow uniformed members (in hopes they will all stop sitting in the G- Fund for twenty years). While many of us may not post we are out there and we are reading what you all have to say.

Looks like 100%s was a good call for today, I may have been the only one that jumped on board with ya from what I have read though.

Thanks BigJames, and thanks to everyone who have spread the word. The site is really growing, especially lately.

    Hello TSP Talk,

I would like to come out of hiding after monitoring your site [/quote]for a few months. Would like to know if I am investing the correct way and understanding how it’s done. Have gotten a lot of useful information from this site but, I am very new to Investing and have a lot to learn and about ten yearsbefore retirement.

Here is what I allocated for Monday and Tuesday, 2004 Nov 15th and 16th was fully invested in the G Fund. Wednesday the 17th was 20 G/0 F/35 C/35 S/10 I.

Would this be what the forum call buy and hold strategies? Not sure how this works yet.

Welcome swsop! Thanks for joining us.

Buy and hold is basically picking an allocation and sticking with it. You can go months, years or even decades with making a major change to it. So to answer your question, that was not a buy and hold strategy.

Hi Swsop, I hope you don't mine if I add to your question. Tom for those who are just getting in the Bull market out of the G fund. We are buying shares at a higher price. What pit falls do we need to be careful of. When the market does pull backfor quite a drop. How does one profit from that in our case. Will we loose out if the market does not return back up to peak where we may have got in. Or does the market eventually grow above previous peak as it grows in the up coming months. Also if you don't want to repeat information that you may get asked frequently, can you point me in the rihgt direction on your site, were you may have talked about it before. Thanks

Tom will we continue to see rallies like the ones thur and fri in the up coming days or months? Also when the market pulls back and you talk about moving a alittle amount into the G fund on the way down, how do you step back in without loosing shares? How can I create more shares in a bull market? In the bear market I could step out high and placeinto G fund then buy back low and ride back up.What do you do in a bull market? On a down day, like yesterday, can Ibuy into a fund with a good assurance it willclimb back up soon, like it did today. Is that risky?

Thanks Tom, I guest I need to acquire more knowledge before I began moving funds around. So back to the G Fund until I have a better understanding of how this works. By the way what kind of move did I make? Did it cost me my account? Or was it a loss or gain? Like I mention, very new to this. :?
